"Square-Enix's major franchise are selling less in Japan and Western markets"

What a lie.

Mmmm I didn't do alot of research into that statement, I mainly based it off of Final Fantasy's main series downward spiral in sales :P. Kingdom Heart's 2 performed far worse then the original though, can't find the figures for many other games.

It's hard to tell with Square-Enix as everything is either a DS / PSP remake or a 360 RPG which all attain no doubt good sales with healthy profits (except some 360 RPG's) but it's like, how long can they keep it going lol.

I'll do a bit more looking into Square-Enix sales and stuff as I've never really bothered to get much knowledge on it. Hmm.

re tool? huh. Didn't everyone use the same technology 2 yrs ago when making Gamecube games.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I don´t think West developers will make the great shift to the Wii like you hope, OP.

Dragon Quest sells awfully anywhere outside of Japan. That's all I have to say.

wow you guys do realize that RPG worldwide is far from the dominant genre right? It makes no sense to say because of DQ HD gaming will be killed. Look at the sales of COD WAW and then compare that to the sales of Valkyria Chronicles, TOV, Lost Odyssey, IU, TLR, Blue Dragon, and so on and so on.

The Japanese Market, and developers are far from the hub of gaming it used to be. Kojima and all the rest even openly admit they have been passed by the West.

of Course DQ is huge for the wii IN JAPAN, and yes third party support will of course grow but to say it will kill hd cause one game? Seriously?

Okay, I thought you were being a fanboy. But making claims you didn't research? What the hell?

1. KH1 = 5.50 million. KH2 = 3.69 million. That's not really "much worse", especially since all genres of gaming tend to have diminishing returns in some series.

2. The thing is those portable ports, remakes, and spinoffs are selling about as well as they always have. As for the 360 games, they've sold 400k. That is actually on the high end of niche RPGs since the 16-bit years.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I have a reasonable knowledge of it all, just not as thorough as i'd like to get into a real debate about it. The point still stands that FF and Kingdom Hearts dropped in sales... and the rest of their franchises we've no sales figures for lol.

My statement was more based around Square-Enix's new focus now anyway, you can tell they know that the western market is where they need to start getting more sales from and the double assault on the market paried with Microsoft's Wallet is evident.

It was going off on a tangent by then anyway.

DQ wont change a thing for the hd consoles even in japan all the games released on the wii outside of big franchises have been huge flops in japan , not even going past 100k in sales
The wii is a very disturbing console for 3partys in japan no one has figured it out yet
