Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does anyone buy a console or game because of popularity?

Well, for example:

GTA is popular right? Lots of people buy it, buy not me, 'cause it's not fun.

Look at Tales. It's pop but not TOO pop. I buy that because it's fun.

P.S. I lol when 10-11 year olds go "I got GTA, best game EVER!!!1"

Not fun to you maybe, it's just your opinion... BTW sales wise, it IS one of the best games ever.

on topic: I've usually already made my decision on a game before it's released, like:

Heavenly Sword, buying, first second it's available.

Medal of Honor: Airborne, renting, whenever I get around to it

Wii Fit, never touching it with a ten foot pole, don't even need to see reviews to know it's utter shit... IMO

Around the Network

They do.

People by BMWs just because it a bimmer and its cool, similar thing goes for any product.

I don't buy a console or game based purely on popularity although it is a factor. Sometimes, a false impression is given in that the most popular games are actually good games. For that reason I always rent a game before I actually buy it though. Popularity matters more to me when it comes to console, though. Popularity in a console leads to more third party support which leads to more and a greater variety of games.
