In Germany the things have been available for some time now. Every time I enter the local Saturn (Big electronics market), there is stacks of at least 30 Wiis chilling. Plus all the accessories and games, except for RE:4 which is sold out.

So maybe BigN should divert some of the German shipments to other regions....

24.95 for ONE nunchuck? That truly sucks...

Feel sorry for the xbxox360 and PS3 owners. Most games are $110-$120 AUS.

Just go JB Hi Fi get cheap games and BD as well. I think about $100au

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

I was stunned when I got my RE4 for $80 NZ. Normal prices for new releases here are $120 and I was prepared to pay this for RE4, you could have knocked me down with a feather when I saw the $80 price tag.

The Wii costs $499NZ but the poor old PS3 costs $1199 !! You have to be super hardcore to shell out that much on a console. I rarely see Wii's in store, but the PS3 are dime a dozen, if you have the dosh.

i'm in tas so no JB HI FI :(. However dvdcrave is a good sores online.

I was just making a point about general consumers. They wouldn't be any wiser about games being sold cheaper online.

And damn I had alot of typos in my original post lol. Glad you understood it shams haha.

Tonight I dropped by the very Target where I bought my Wii @ launch and for the first time since launch I actually saw a Wii behind the glass. 10 of them, to be precise.

I asked an employee when they were put out and he said yesterday (Tuesday).

Now I went to this Target at least once a week through June and have only been there once since then so I can't say that the Wii have been sitting for more than a day in between June and August, but definitely not before June.

I wonder if there were a lot more units and now they are down to 10.
I wonder if this was supposed to coincide with this particular location getting Strikers Charged (sometimes they don't get new games for a week or two).

I wonder why they were there.
Is it indicative of the time of year, the lack of games, or perhaps this is the first midweek shipment they've received and it wasn't in the flyer. Through June they only had the Wii on Sundays to coincide with it being in the flier.

Any other reasons you guys can think of?

Which country are you talking about? U.S.A.?

Would be cool if im right with my increased shipment theory :)

 Yup USA

Suburb around a major city

What, specifically, is your increased shipment theory?

At this point in the year people might be getting tired of looking and are just going to wait until Xmas or something, too.

Or maybe Nintendo is flooding US channels in time for MP3. Or maybe their increased supply finally increased to the point that the shipments have increased on top of what may or may not be being held back for Xmas.

I've said before that I believe Nintendo was counting on the summer slump to stock on Wii, and initially thought that it didn't work. It seems like it worked, but later than anticipated. Instead of starting meeting summer demand in June, it started in August.
I'm sure Nintendo doesn't stockpile anything, so the little glut they will have gained in summer won't be enough, so they should go for increased production in September anyway.

Today I went into my local Dick Smiths only to find the Wii on special. Down from $499 NZD to $399 NZD --> $100 off !!

Of course $499 was too high anyway, this would be $369USD or $439AUD.
But now at $399 that is $295USD or $351AUD, much more comparable.
Still surprised to see it discounted already though. But I do not think it is a permanent price drop.

JRI.

@Justro, I have noticed a few price drops (usually $50) around as well in NZ. Didnt see the $100 one.
I dont think the Wii is moving hugely well here, the GC flopped in NZ (moreso than everywhere else) and I dont think NZ is that Nintendo friendly, even as far as the DS is concerned.

$100 price drop would certainly move a hell of a lot more units here though. Heck, now you've got me tempted =P.

My thoughts are they expect Metroid Prime 3 to sell very well because of favorible word of mouth.

I saw them for the first time in the "wild" recently, too at Wal Mart. There were 12 of them but it was really early in the morning and I wasn't able to come back that day.
