All I know of is the Simple 2000 franchise. It's not a normal franchise so much as it is a collection of weird titles gathered together.

So it's an "umbrella franchise" of lots of budget titles, from stuff like boxing and bass fishing to stuff like "The Daibijin, which has attracted attention largely due to its central premise of a giant bikini-clad woman attacking a city".

Hm, they seem to be only known in Japan...in the western they seem to have barely even released. I call the decision to include them in the game questionable at best, over more well known franchises in the west like Suikoden, Monkey Island, Shin Megami Tensei, Katamari, etc.
Well, I'd say the series has acquired a certain amount of infamy among Westerners by reputation alone. Although I have a Japanese PS2 and have played at least one of their games.

Damn, I just checked in Wikipedia the list of games released on that series...and they are 379!! Talk about milking. I could earn the big VG$ if I added all those games into the database
Simple is considered a franchise, as well as a well-selling one - 48th best-selling of all franchises, ever.
That places it above franchises like Half-Life, Warcraft, Diablo, SimCity, Nintendogs, and Metroid, in sales. Perhaps not well-known in the Western world, but it has still earned its spot.
