Yeah, we really shouldn't be too surprised. It wasn't even made by the orginal team and it's more of a spin off than a real sequel.

I think that the game being linear is a poor complaint as there's really nothing wrong with a game being linear. Now the convoluted story complaint is valid complant since the story is a mess and therefore, very hard to understand and enjoy. Also, the reviewer saying "that some of the dialouge makes no sense" might imply that the localization is terrible.
Confirmed: Mainstream sites are so biased against the Wii that they're now knocking Wii games for things that they wouldn't knock PS360 games for.
Case in point: This game v. Tales of Vesperia. Vesperia is basically the same game we've played 100 times before too, but it inexplicably got a much higher review score.

And maybe, just maybe, Vespersia is better? But no, it can't be. IGN is biased, that's the only explanation.
I dont' think people are complaining about them rating it average but the hypocritical bias as the reasoning. That they don't mind knocking down this title for being stereotypical but all the other various games that have exactly the same "cons" are rated without that. Hell GTA IV got a 10 with those qualities. It's just not right. They could have reviewed it with that same score and not have mentioned that and I would have been fine with it... but that reasoning is bullshit.
DAMN I cant wait for their review on COD: WAW right now and we knew there are things to complain about on that game :) *sarcasm*

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced
E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

I'm listening to the podcast right now, and Daemon didn't played the first one. The reasons he mentions are acceptable. He just expected more, and for him was too linear with no much freedom to explore.

If this review trend continues I'll still play this eventually, but I just won't rush out to buy it.
On another Tales note, I'm currently playing Legendia and it's been pretty fun thus far.
