Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii: The problem with ports.

There is nothing altogether bad about ports. However on Wii many companies are abusing the small library, and trying to make up for not supporting the Wii early on by releasing these ports. I don't have a problem with ports when they are ported well, priced right, and are a good game to begin with.

Why has RE5 sold so well, it fits the criteria.

PoP is a decent port, at a high price, but it is based on a good game.

Far Cry... is a far cry from a good port, originally priced at $50 , and sucked on other consoles.

If a game is based on a PSP game it should not cost $50 on Wii.

Wii development does not add that much to the cost of making the game if you are keeping the visuals and length the same.

Alien Syndrome (Which I am buying because I love top-down shooters and dungeon crawls) is over priced for (normal, as opposed to me being crazy) gamers.

What other games do you think need a price reduction that are coming out the are old ports or PSP games?

(Edit: Even a new game that sucks like Escape from Bug Island, Eidos has the decency to add in cheesy humor and lower the price to $29.99.)

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I agree with all the titles and points that you have mentioned so far but would like to add games such as The Metal Slug Anthology as part of that. I love the Metal Slug games and would heavily consider buying this but every time i walk into my local Game it is always priced at £40. If it was at £20, i would definately buy it. Seems like a lot of games sales are missed due to companies being greedy with the pricing of certain games. Companies would make more profit selling them cheaper due to the fact that they would sell more copies and therefore build a bigger fan base to sell to if they produced a sequel to the game.

Escape From Bug Island was originally listed at 50 dollars and it was supposed to come out literally the same day as RE 4 on Wii lol...

I think they made a good choice in delaying it, that game seriously looks like a PS1 game. Yes PS1, not 2.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I forgot Metal Slug, and you are right, I have not been able to bring myself to buy it either.  Plus also I feel sorry that you guys get ripped, £20 is like $37 and even if you consider the higher wages it is still $30 which sucks.  It's not all the publishers fault.  Tax is included in your price, we add tax.  UK has a media tax in there too, we only have sales tax.  But it is still overvalued. (I only care because I might move there after I graduate from college :P  My major is Internation Affairs and the market is better for my degree.)

I posted this thread because of what you said to me the other day, about my liking ports.  This is my justification thread.

Yeah, and where is Tomb Raider Anniversary?

Yeah we get ripped off in the UK regarding everything. The PS3 is £400 over here, heck even the Wii is £200 over here which i believe is a lot more expensive than over the pond in America.

Yeah, that converts roughly just over $400 US for the Wii (man does our dollar suck).

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

Funny how RE4, perhaps one of the only good ports on the wii is 30$, yet the ports from PSP are priced at a full 50$

In the UK the wii isn't £200...it's £179. You may have been rounding up but but bumping it up to £200 is to much.

Its crazy i know, and then the publishers complain that they dont shift many copies of that game on the system hehe.
