This statement is so WRONG, it is comical. The 360's sales WERE AHEAD OF LAST YEAR'S PACE before the PRICE CUT! Do people check ANY friggin data before they post nonsense...Nevermind that this VERY SITE has the data to disprove your statement...PS3 had a nice rebound in 2008, but the current trand for it isn't looking good for the holiday season, and that;s a major period for console makers to pad the profits. 360 will be near 30 million by the end of the year, and it will reach it in the first qtr of 2009...at this rate, PS3 will be lucky to see 20 million in that time...without a price cut.

There's that whole thing about profits...you know...shareholders..etc. sony isn't a charity organization, and with all the eggs they placed in the PS3 basket...talking price cuts for it to boost sales is not feasible right now. I'm sure a $1498 Wii would demolish the PS3, or a $99 xbox 360...so talking price cuts in some vaccum of reality is fruitless.

^A yellow PS2... was that a special edition or is it a dev-kit or something?
I don't know if either is gonna reach 50 million so no answer. the systems are too similar, and too many games are being multiplatform to keep people from having reasons to own both.
And I just don't see how last gen we had 120 mil PS2's 30 or so Xbox and 25 GC.
And now your expecting to see 100+ wii's and then some 50+ for each 360 and PS3. Not gonna happen
seems like 360 has been sitting around 20 million for so long. and PS3 is only at like 16 million.

The PS3 can get to 50 million before the 360 if the PS3 wins this holiday season.
The 360's outlook in Japan still looks bleak. Despite being significantly cheaper, the 360 is outselling the PS3 by fewer than 5k already. It is very likely that a price drop for the PS3 will be enough to drown the 360 lift. Also, other than The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: The Last Hope, what other titles will boost the 360 for years to come? FFXIII is currently not for the 360 in Japan.
Other non-english speaking countries seem to prefer the PS3. That is not favorable for the 360 at all in the long run.
US is the real struggle. The 360 can not afford to lose.
