Forums - General Discussion - Who was a better President: George Bush or Bill Clinton?

George W. Bush because he is my homeboy:) @Rubang, does the Commander in Chief sit back and relax after 3000+ people are killed. NO. His mandate is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. Everybody didn't have a prob going to war after 9/11 and many wanted to use nukes. Bush asked the Congress and Dems and Reps, voted for war authority. Basically, it involves a quick response call. You have to do something if it takes to long for a disfunctional Congress to act. If a dirty bomb is unleashed, you think the pres has time to go through Congress and the useless UN. No.

The tax cuts were a joke. The majority of the cuts were for the richest of the rich. Yeah, some small businesses got a little slack, but the richest people in America got millions handed to them for nothing, and the poor got enough for a couple free beers and burritos. And all the money the government lost on tax cuts... mixed with starting multiple wars... mixed with blowing our entire surplus (including the large portion earmarked for social security)... basically handed our economy to China.

I'm going to mention some things you arent taking into consideration.

1) The tax cuts gave small businesses huge breaks. Thes breaks made it possible for small businesses to hire more employees and grow. A job allows the poor you're talking about to do more than buy beer, it allows them to make a living.

Also, the tax cuts gave the rich nothing. You have your basic understanding of economy wrong. The rich that benefit from tax cuts are simply allowed to keep their hard earned money. That's called liberty and there's nothing wrong with that. It also is a powerful vehicle for economic growth and job creation as the rich tend to invest their money in business and economy so that it grows. Ask youself this simple question. When was the last time a poor person or homeless man hired you for a job? That will never happen, but 80% of people employed in America are employed by these evil rich people you hate so much.

Third, the government tax revenue has increased due to the taxe cuts. There was no money lost. As rocketpig mentioned, it was the so-called conservative congress and the war that spent all the new money.

Last, China may talk big and own alot of America's debt, but they will never move on it. They are heavly invested in America and they peg their currency to the dollar. If they moved to destroy the American economy they do so at the cost of their own which they have spent decades building.

@rocketpig, what I mean about Bush being soft on terrorism until 9/11 is that... he got elected... and did nothing for 8 months. He was on vacation the whole time. He had a tax cut, and he cut funding for Planned Parenthoods on foreign soil, and went hunting until 9/11 happened. There was a gigantic pool of information that the CIA and the Clinton administration had built on Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden during all the attacks of the 90's. We had a terrorist problem. Bush sat on his hands and waited for the big one to get all riled up and do something.

Honestly, what did you expect him to do? It takes 8 months for the government to buy a new toilet seat. Clinton, on the other hand, had 8 years to go after domestic terrorists and was pretty damned unsuccessful in doing so. The 9/11 operation was well under way during his watch. A lot of our current intelligence problems can also be blamed on him and his intelligence advisors. As a country, we were caught with our pants down because the entire intelligence community had failed to transition to the "new war" (terrorism) after the fall of the Soviet Union. Pretty much all of that happened while Clinton was President.

I dislike Bush as much as the next guy but when it comes to terrorism and intelligence, it's hard to blame anyone other than Mr. William Clinton. He was the one holding the keys when all this shit started to go down and was unsuccessful in quelling the problem before it ballooned into something huge.

And, whether you like or hate Bush, you have to admit that there hasn't been an attack on American soil since 9/11. Some think that's just a coincidence or luck (and I'm not going to really disagree), but them's the facts. You can't argue the results.
