Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I got it! HP:OOTP for the Wii

Wahoo! Finished the game, 100% discovery and all gobstone, chess, and exploding snap champions beat. Every trophy..

There's nothing left...to....do....Oh, I'm so depressed.

Watched the movie last night too. I'm amazed at how well the layout of the castle matches up to the movie. I actually enjoyed the movie more because I'm sitting there thinking "Oh, that's on the stone bridge heading toward Hagrid's hut" or "That's the entrance courtyard" and so on.

Anyway, overall I did like the game. It could have been longer. I found out a few secrets that made spell casting easier. But I would loved to have had more time to do some battles with the Slytherins. Oh well. I guess I can go back and play the ravenclaw chess champion a few more times. I suck at chess, but the game makes me look good :)

I tried it later last night and it's not bad so far, though I'm only 10% into it. The framerate hit is definitely noticeable (even the opening movie takes bad hits) and the game has a very rushed feel to it.

I just plain hate the camera. It's not really a Wii thing, it's just that it wasn't well implemented at all. It's buggy, it's jumps around a lot, and it's just hard to get where you want it to go. In short: it was rushed.

The wand waving is fun, but it takes a little bit to get use to. Not so much the motions, but the picking an object to affect. It still feels a little awkward moving the pointer to pick what I want to cast a spell on, but I hope that will fix itself.

Still though, even with the these gripes, I'm expecting a decent game. I've had several people tell me it's a lot of fun so I'm confident it will be worth the buy.

LOL @ you. why did you buy a shitty video game based on harry potter, especially if EA is making them. You know EA is the master at Making mediocre movie/book/sport licenced games and selling at 49.99 or 59.99 for huge profits. now that they got peter moore, they can start making decent games again, but i doubt it

It's not a bad game and I only bought it because I know several people (real live people--not people on forums) that said it was good. Like I said, it does have its problems and it does feel rushed, but it is fun.

i like your avatar ^^^

I was thinking of buying it since eb has it half price here. So it's no longer a rip-off.

But I never really liked GTA style sandbox games, so I don't think I'll enjoy it

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I have been quite enjoying it - I started another thread on HP here BTW...

But... last night I started playing it to show it off to some friends - only to discover that they had DELETED my save game (30% complete). Doh... back to the start.

But I do recommend it, and think the IGN review is pretty much spot on (7.5/10 IMO).

Gesta Non Verba

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Game Assessment website

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

Controls are awesome, lots to do, but a bit boring. All quests asking "go fetch this, talk to him, find this" etc. I'd say 6/10 for a non Harry Potter fan, an 8/10 for one.

Twesterm: Press and hold the C button. You can then use the analog stick to look around. Still some restrictions in some areas, and it doesn't always end up changing the final camera position, but I know it had helped me quite a bit after I found out about it.

Note that the US movie ticket offer is a child's ticket, or an adult matinee ticket - max value $8.50. Obviously it's a promotional deal, still saves money if you were planning to see it anyway.

My wife is only about 80 minutes into Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix, but she's enjoying it greatly so far -- I won't tackle it myself until I wrap up Scarface and then dive into RE:4.

I'm starting to think that the "sandbox" game style works pretty well for movie tie-ins when the fictional universe is interesting enough that you actually WANT to spend some time in it. Not being forced along a particular path can be liberating if you're enjoying the game's world, and a strong license lends itself to that. (Of course, in this case, Ron and Hermione do get kind of naggy if you decide to ignore the next official plot-based objective. But I understand you can go wander around freely after the main story is done with.)

Shoot, son, I don't know where you're from, but 'round these parts, an adult ticket is $8.50.

& my wife's somehow gotten herself into a Sims kick, and she won't play anything but. >.<
