Forums - Sony Discussion - Wipeout HD and Wipeout PS3 both on their way

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160551

Understandably, Buckley wasn't too forthcoming, but confirmed the Liverpool based team wants to quickly release an iteration in the form of Wipeout HD, which should be officially announced in August or even earlier at E3. 1UP learned Wipeout HD is simply the first step, with a "major" Wipeout release penciled in for sometime in 2008. Wipeout HD will feature a online multiplayer mode and, while unconfirmed, likely HD-enabled tracks from Wipeout Pulse, as well.

Wipeout HD should arrive on the PlayStation Network before the end of the year.

So two wipeout games coming. One just a downloadable Wipeout HD version and then a full fledged PS3 version in 08. Good to see the Sony Franchises returning. With this and Socom both getting two different games (downloadable smaller game + bigger retail game) it looks like Sony and its 2nd parties are making a lot of PS3 games.

I loved the first Wipeout to death - but was SO disappointed when I played Wipeout on the PS2. It was probably my most anticipated PS2 title, and I can't understate how much I HATED the game (I even ended up emailing the dev team and bitching to them I think...). Lost faith in the franchise ever since.

will it use the motorstorm engine ?

Thats what I hear, I hear it will use the motorstorm engine, from joystiq web site

Nice. Motorstorm looked very nice, with some more work this game can look even more stunning.

I don't really like these downloadable games: GT HD, Tekken HD, Tekken HD online, Socom HD, Warhawk HD & Wipeout HD. It makes me feel the real games could be released faster or they should be working on other projects.

I thought these games were ment to be filling up the lack of games. I'll just hope these games aren't a new money fountain. There will be less franchises and moreof the same games.

Instead of waiting longer for Tekken 6, you get this version to ease the wait. Same with GT, Wipeout and Socom. Warhawk is a multiplayer only game so it's perfect to be a downloadable game.

I really like that Sony is making big projects for downloadable games while MS is just using Live for small games or remakes and Nintendo is rereleasing old games only.

It's nice to have something to play. I'd like to play VF5 while waiting for Tekken 6. I know these games are cheaper. But I think in the future when PS3 has enough games and platinum games. Those downloadable games aren't really needed, unless you're really adicted to a particular franchise.

For the time being I think it's ok to realise these games. After 2008 I'm not waiting for a Gran Turismo 5.5 just to ease me for Gran Tourismo 6.

I think one of the main reason people buy PS3 games is for the 1080p resolution. And if you can get that with a downloadable game for cheaper, why would you buy the new version for $60? I would be less enticed to buy the new version, personally.

I think it is great, games for less than $20.  Or free in the case of GTHD.

These online games are going to bulk up the library from the beginning to the end of the generation.  You'll come to love it once you find that one game that you really dig.  I was lucky, GTHD is perfect for me.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
