Forums - General Discussion - Yesterday, I saw a Beatle in concert

http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5glulNN8jOyjabUGHTL6EoNrYNL3A

The concert took place on our historic battle ground park, the Plains of Abraham ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plains_of_Abraham ) in front of a crowd of over 200 000 people. His performance was the highlight of my city (Quebec city) 's 400th anniversary of its founding. Here is a youtube video someone took of the crowd on the front side of the stage before the concert http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hu0CdxtQYEU . There was also areas set up all around the stage with giant screens.

McCartney is a true performer despite his age. I went to see Bob Dylan last year and while I have a profound love and respect for his work , when compared to a contemporary like McCartney, Dylan shows his age (although to be fair, Dylan performs a few venues a week whereas McCartney has only done 3 concerts this year). This link will allow you to chose some of his performances http://youtube.com/results?search_query=McCartney+quebec&search_type=&aq=f

The most touching part of the concert was when he dedicated the next song to a friend called John. I don't like to gossip, but I think he meant Lennon. He then broke into my favorite Beatles song, A Day in the Life, which was a medley into Give Peace a Chance. The touching part was hearing 200 000 people singing the lyrics "All we are saying , is give peace a chance." I just hope they realized that singing along is meaningless unless you put the words into action.

There was some controversy where French nationalists were complaining about having a British citizen celebrate our 400th anniversary (the Plaines of Abraham are the battle grounds where the English and French fought for control in the city many times over the centuries). To appease those people, but mostly to delight his crowd, he often spoke in our native French, waved a Quebec Flag and wore a souvenir coat. Since it was our 400th anniversary celebration he dedicated "They say it's your birthday" to the city.

I used my PSP as a light to wave during "Let it be" and "Hey Jude." ;)

EDIT: One thing I find odd though is that he doesn't introduce his band even though they are very talented and he has great chemistry with them.

No, He's dead. Fromhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_lennon#Death

"On the night of 8 December 1980, Lennon was shot four times in the back (the fifth shot missed) in the entrance hallway of the Dakota by Mark David Chapman. Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy for Chapman earlier that same night.[183]

Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival in the Emergency Room at the Roosevelt Hospital at 11:15 p.m. On the following day, 9 December 1980, Ono issued a statement: "There is no funeral for John. John loved and prayed for the human race. Please pray the same for him. Love, Yoko and Sean."[184] Chapman pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life. He is still in prison, 27 years since his arrest, having been denied parole four times.[185][186]

Two days after his death, Lennon's body was cremated at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York, and his ashes were kept by Ono.[187]"

And so is George Harrison, from throat cancer in 2001.

Unfortunately the screen, but it was still an event to be in. WE could see the flag when he was waving it. They should have had round stage in retrospect.

EDIT: We were within 100 meters of the Stage though, just with an obstructed view.

On Friday July 18th I saw Billy Joel at the last concert at Shea Stadium (it is being torn down). The Beatles played the first concert at Shea, and it was historic for both the Staduim and the Beatles. So.... Paul McCartney was a guest for the show. He played one song during the concert and then the last song of the last concert at Shea was Let It Be. It was pretty amazing

This is my signature.

Yes, I know about that.
Would he have been there had he not had another North American engagement in the same week-end? If not, they you know who to thank. ;)

I don't care that much about McCartney personally, and not introducing your band isn't very nice, Paul!

But seeing the setlist it must have been a night to never forget, so my respect goes to you for having witnessed this concert.
