Forums - Sony Discussion - the Blu-ray thread, will go on untill hddvds death.

So let me get this straight, the great movie Braveheart will be HD DVD exclusive in the USA (Paramount) and Blu Ray exclusive in the rest of the world(Fox)?

it's only getting interesting because seems like in terms of studio support, they are on par for the two formats.

Columbia Pictures, MGM Yes No
Disney Yes No
Dreamworks No Yes
HBO Yes Yes

MGM and Columbia count as one since Sony owns them both. If you leave out the smaller studios, like HBO, its dead even.

Universal is actually considering going neutral (IGN stated it in one of their podcasts)

That was a rumor from months ago.

The current rumor is that Lionshead is going neutral, or even exclusive to HD since they have been making tons of money on Markeytplace - something MS is sure to leverage.

wouldnt that mean they would be going HD Download only not HD-DVD...

We will have to see what happens because one of the IGN guys worked for Paramount and said they really arent the brightest when it comes to technology and are normally the slowest to actually be able to handle and use new technology, like their first few years they released movies on DVD they were mega low quality compared to all the other studios.

I'll put down your crack if you put down your heroine as well.

yes, on par. Paramount and dreamworks + universal box office is a significant amount of revenue.

Way to change an argument about number of studios supporting a format to the marketshare of said studios. However, this would assume that you know the difference...

And lol @ ign

Paramount is pretty important (although I think their line up is weak). Definitely situation of HD-DVD is much better now than before this marriage. It will take much longer to get one format. It's only matter of time though. They can risk now when penetration of HD market is small. Still most of income comes from DVD but in the future... nah they would want much more than $150 million for exclusive support for losing format.

Vivid sucks... They don't know what does the hard-core mean...

I guess sieanr doesn't understand this.

Blu-ray still has the advantage (Universal and Paramount is countered by Sony and Disney, Fox and Lionsgate are tie-breakers).

What sucks is Toshiba (or whoever) is throwing around so much money so they can get all the royalties for hd-dvd.  I hope it's worth it to them because this format war is just going to force dual-format players to "win."

Paramount can not even begin to think that this was the right decision without all that money being given to them.  I hope that contract doesn't last a long time.

Sony fanboys am cry

Looks like this thread will stay alive a bit longer than some people expected...

Sony announced a $100 million ad campaign, called "HDNA", to educate consumers about HD viewing, and how Sony's products - its BD players, BD movies, and HD TV's will integrate to provide the ultimate decadent experience for couch potatoes everywhere ho ho ho. This was announced on Aug 16th btw.
