Hi, I've been a gamer for many years, back in the old Duke Nukem / Doom / Quake days..
Always been a fan of console and have at one time pretty much owned each one of them. My favourites being Dreamcast, SNES, N64 and Xbox 1.
I think the PS3 sales drop is quite a worrying sign for the company. People were comparing PS2s rather steady but low sales during the first 6-8 months after Launch, but the platform is different. Also PS3 sales are declining and not staying steady. The video game market as a whole is growing, the console marketing seeing the lionshare of that growth. So realistically it's not difficult to expect that PS3 should be preforming well when it isn't.
I have owned a PS3. I live in the U.K and i purchased a HK 60GB import for resistance fall of man for £290.. Very cheap. Everyone who imported were dieing to offload.
I wasn't keen on the apperance at first but honestly it did grow on me, infact i started to like it allot more looks wise to my Xbox 360.
Resistance fall of man was ok, Motorstorm was good but felt rather limited. Not a large game. VF5 was impressive.
None of these titles could sway me though, once i got a £400 offer for it off a mate i sold it. Not because of the profit i made off it, but because i didn't want it. See i have a good job / salary so money doesn't play into these things.. More the want i feel for a system.
Xbox 360 however i love. I purchased it in October 2006. The reason... Gears of war.. Someone showed me a youtube video of ingame play for it, the same day i saw it i went upto gamestation and bought a prem pack with 6 games and 2 pads. Nothing on PS3 that i have seen coming makes me want to go do that with a PS3.. Sure metal gear solid, FF etc are all good games coming.. But there is nothing original and mindblowing coming it's way that i've seen (with ingame footage) that turns me on about it anymore. Nothing at least that isn't coming out for both systems.
I will eventually buy a PS3 though, the bluray format is going to win the wars. Sales are exceeding HD DVD. I have HDDVD currently and Choices / Blockbuster don't support the HD DVD format to rent. Only Bluray. For that reason only i will buy a PS3, but only once the price drops. However i dont think the whole High Definition era is going to make much difference, DVD is going to be along for a long long time.
And forgetting all those factors.. One reason i want the PS3 to fail is this.
They only packed it with a damn composite cable.. Sony go on about High Definition every god damn day, yet only throw in a composite. The ammount of inexperienced people who will hook it up and then be unimpressed for that reason not knowing Component / HDMI is for the HD signal will be huge.
