I have no problem with somebody stating that x amount of units have been sold (to retail) but I do have a problem with somebody telling me that because of that comment our numbers are wrong when in fact it is their misunderstanding of the figures that is the problem.
Sony are always bullish with all of their figures, we had this black friday in America we had it over christmas, we had the 1 million sold in the UK about 4-5 weeks before Chart Track announced that it had sold through 1 million. Experience tells me to take stuff like this with a pinch of salt and at the very least understand he is 1) going to say everything he can to make his company sound as good as possible (spin) and 2) reporting sold (to retail) figures. |

It wasn't 4-5 weeks. Reeves interview was on Jan 25 (http://www.mcvuk.com/interviews/186/INTERVIEW-David-Reeves) and Chart Track was on Feb 14 (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/02/14/ps3_1m_uk_sales_figure/). So it's more like 2-3 weeks. Seems about right to me to have 2-3 weeks of stock in the shelves.
Anyway, I totally agree with you about taking this with a pinch of salt. You should wait for next week when they announce their official numbers for the 4Q/FY2007.
Also, when can we expect a small article comparing retail/sell though numbers for the 360 (based off their latest earnings report)? There is no way the 360 reduced their retail stock by so much in a single quarter (from 1.6M to 800k or so). We need your wisdom, please do a small article about it and the necessary adjustments to the 360, it's clearly over tracked a lot. Even if we put in the "shortages" there were never shortages WW, even in NA the shortages were regional.
Please consider doing a small article about 360 retail/sell through like you did for Nintendo. We as VGC users deserve it. Can't be all about Nintendo, right? We also need 360, PS3 and PSP articles every quarter
