Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Daemon X Machina Demo Impressions

Just finished the demo. The game is basically Armored Core 3 with giant bosses. There was only one boss in the demo, but he was fun to fight. He had a giant laser attack that you had to dodge. Oh and he hopped around a lot. You can destroy weak points to get rid of his ability to jump around, or shoot lasers. If the rest of the game has bosses as good as that I'll be sold.

The graphics are good in spots, but kind of PS2-ish in others. Trees had like two alpamaps making up their foliage, which is something I haven't seen since GTA4. Ears looked really blocky on the character models. Hopefully this gets cleaned up before release.

Sound was fairly good, but sort of repetitive. Voice acting was ok I guess. A few characters were borderline annoying.

Controls are solid, and infinitely better than the old Armored Core controls. Locking on with missiles feels good. I was a bit disappointed that the demo didn't really have a shop for upgrading your mech. Oh well. Still looking like a good game so far.

Around the Network

Never played the Armored Core games because at the time I hated Mechs, but playing Xenogears changed that. But yeah, initially the controls were overwhelming for me but everything eventually made sense and you feel really powerful when you know what you're doing.

Love the customization so far for mechs and characters but I wish characters had more optimization. All I wanted to do was make Piccolo from DBZ but there's no bald character option. I hope more styles are made available in the final build. And I also agree that some graphical downgrades are present compared to other areas in the game )The tree alphas were disgusting) but overall, I think it is still a very strong presentation. Definitely buying this, I just hope there's more enemy types than the tanks and drones.

I liked the way the tanks and drones were used. They are not really a threat except in large numbers. But shooting them to get ammo, and having to clear them out to make sure  your missiles don't accidentally lock onto them makes shooting them useful. I wonder if we'll have a few levels where we have to go on foot inside a building or something. That would be fun.

True, I just hope there's more variety which I'm sure there will be. I do like the cycle of combat. Getting out of the mech is interesting, I also hope there's some on foot missions. Everything kills you so fast when you're on foot though, perhaps that changes with upgrades etc. which will lend more credence to the idea of on foot missions. I really want to see where this game goes from here on out.
