Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony has no excuse to not release PS1 games digitally anymore

With how the NES classic did, they can't do that as it makes no sense financially.

Though that is what we should see. All those classic consoles are silly, just release the games on the current ones.

How many did it sell ? I assumed it was a success.

With the announcement of PlayStation Classic Sony has openly declared they are ok with PlayStation games being played on modern screens (HD and above) as the system will rely on a HDMI connection to display the games from the emulator (the PS3 could still technically be played with composite/component video connections). They have no excuses anymore.

So I'm expecting a digital release of PlayStation Classics for the PS4 to be announced soon as well (and yes, PlayStation officially emulated games have been called PlayStation Classics over PlayStation Network for about a decade now).

Trophy support would be greatly appreciated too.

Imo Sony will cash in on this classic first and then announce ps1 classics in a few years along with ps2 and ps4 as a bc feature of the ps5. Ps3 I'm not so sure if ps5 could run it.

Why? Because it would be seen as a big plus for ps5 and create additional buzz. I think they'll selfishly hold out with the ps4 as it doesn't need any help selling.

I have the same opinion, being this close to a new gen it seems logical to start with a clean slate much better PR to be seen as a feature of a new product rather than a  feature carried over from the back end of the previous gen  if there's to be any action PS5 is the place to look at.

They do have one excuse, they will require trophy support, which will require diving into the code. Unless it's run externally from the .exe on certain triggers.

I think they should. But, something tells me that they are waiting for the PS5, and will have it B/C with PS1-PS4. At launch, though, when B/C actually means something.

@bralod

Let's be honest the only thing Sony need to sell their console is a reasonably powerful machine for 400$ along with big 3rd party support and awesome exclusives. Everything else are just bonus features. I believe the ps5 will get ps1 and ps2 games along with full ps4 bc.

That's the point, the classic consoles have been printing so much money that Sony will not do what OP wants because they have financial incentives against that.

I hope they do

Well sony isn't great at it, the ps2 classics were welcome but only a very few were released and support was cut down fast. While their are so many ps2 releases maybe would have a small audience but then you have games like PES3/PES4 would be an excellent choice.

Oh well now we have 'the mini/classic console war'

puts head up ass.....

they dont need an excuse, they are the leading selling console maker. they will not give any as they believe they owe none.

takes head out of ass....

just staying on message.

edit: even though i think your right OP, just the arrogance lately, knows no bounds.

they also seem alot more able to listen to "the players" when not so far ahead, like when ps2 was out king of the mountain which lead to the ps3 disastrous launch, which they did turn around but much much more humble at the start of the ps4 launch, kinda gone to hell since the big numbers they have been boasting. also what happened to shu? he used to be allover the place, if he is out there, i havent seen him in awhile.

looking at prs ms have been much more arrogant than sony, but sure let's call not making a decision you want be arrogance

The chances including it as a feature for PS5 launch will make someone decide to buy it or not is very, very small.

IMO we have more chances if Sony does it now and carries it over to the PS5, by an unified store.

People wanting to get the new system to play the new hot stuff can't care less if it has PS1 games on it or not to make that decision.

Sony will benefit nothing from waiting.

So if releasing a feature on their new gen won't make any difference in sales why would they take the money to make it in current gen? Just to please you and a handful of gamers? Since PS3 we already know that the BC was lightly used.
