Didn't one of the Sony Executives say that you the audience would never want to play something like that.

puts head up ass.....

they dont need an excuse, they are the leading selling console maker. they will not give any as they believe they owe none.

takes head out of ass....

just staying on message.

edit: even though i think your right OP, just the arrogance lately, knows no bounds.

they also seem alot more able to listen to "the players" when not so far ahead, like when ps2 was out king of the mountain which lead to the ps3 disastrous launch, which they did turn around but much much more humble at the start of the ps4 launch, kinda gone to hell since the big numbers they have been boasting. also what happened to shu? he used to be allover the place, if he is out there, i havent seen him in awhile.

The funny thing is all this talk is happening towards the back end of the PS4's life , it's not like the PS4 is a year or two into it's life and people are making PS1 an hot issue , Sony have continued along the same path that gave us the games that made it the leading console, then at the back end we get calls of arrogance when they stay on that path, the talk we hear today about Sony only picked up volume when fuel added by the opposition who have a vested interest resulted in a media pile on that morphed what was a legitimate debate into a case of tall poppy syndrome.to the point where now it seems that any want not being executed by Sony is quickly turned to them being arrogant, rather than acknowledging that there are two sides to a story and their reasons may have a validity to them but unless we look we won't know.

With the announcement of PlayStation Classic Sony has openly declared they are ok with PlayStation games being played on modern screens (HD and above) as the system will rely on a HDMI connection to display the games from the emulator (the PS3 could still technically be played with composite/component video connections). They have no excuses anymore.

So I'm expecting a digital release of PlayStation Classics for the PS4 to be announced soon as well (and yes, PlayStation officially emulated games have been called PlayStation Classics over PlayStation Network for about a decade now).

Trophy support would be greatly appreciated too.

I could play PS classics with an HDMI only device 5 years ago. It was called the PS Vita TV.

Also I doubt trophies since it seems like these are just the PS1 games running off the PS3/ PSP emulator. But if they had trophies, I would be more interested.

With how the NES classic did, they can't do that as it makes no sense financially.

Though that is what we should see. All those classic consoles are silly, just release the games on the current ones.

Imo Sony will cash in on this classic first and then announce ps1 classics in a few years along with ps2 and ps4 as a bc feature of the ps5. Ps3 I'm not so sure if ps5 could run it.

Why? Because it would be seen as a big plus for ps5 and create additional buzz. I think they'll selfishly hold out with the ps4 as it doesn't need any help selling.

How many did it sell ? I assumed it was a success.

I have the same opinion, being this close to a new gen it seems logical to start with a clean slate much better PR to be seen as a feature of a new product rather than a  feature carried over from the back end of the previous gen  if there's to be any action PS5 is the place to look at.

As long as the PS5 carries over the PS2 classics on PS4 (no hope to PS1 and PS2 classics from PS3 being carried over to anything at this point), I'm fine with it.

The problem is, the further we go in tech the less likely is Sony to want you to play 240/360p games compared to the current ones, we are still into a majority of 1080p games at this point (because even the Pro/X value them making higher than 1080p games have benefits running at 1080p screens as it's still widely more popular than 4K) but next gen it'll be all 4K and it's even less likely Sony will want untouched 5th gen games running on those devices/screens.

So I hope as this points Sony is still ok with you playing those games as they were nowdays, that they can make them available for us in the current gen system.

Also, it'll still take at least 2 years for we to have the PS5 and when it comes digital 5th gen games will be even less relevant than they are today. People wanting to buy a newly release PS5 won't care less if it has PS1 games on its online store to make that decision, it won't sell any system, it's something they'll profit in after someone has already decided to buy it.

But I sure hope the PS5 has access to every PS system games, physically or digital, it would be great to be able to keep all games in a single platform. (And you can throw PSP/PSV digital games there too)

The chances including it as a feature for PS5 launch will make someone decide to buy it or not is very, very small.

IMO we have more chances if Sony does it now and carries it over to the PS5, by an unified store.

People wanting to get the new system to play the new hot stuff can't care less if it has PS1 games on it or not to make that decision.

Sony will benefit nothing from waiting.
