Well, you must have at least some knowledge of the news if you're aware that terrorist attacks and tax hikes have been topics of discussion.

Unfortunately stuff like that is hard to avoid completely. Doesn't mean I'd seek out information like that though. Don't understand why anybody would want to either.

Maybe some of us have stock investments?  Do you realize what the "trade wars are easy" from Trump is doing to the markets right now?

Shame that people like Theodore Roosevelt don't appear in USA politics for over a century.

Of course they're horrible and depressing, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't know about it, because having a better understanding of the world allows for much better perspectives on our own lives and the issues that we're facing.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I do agree with Ka-pi here. Not getting invested into all sorts of different topics makes life less stressful and by default more relaxed. Many news topics don't directly affect the overwhelming majority of the population, ergo they needn't know about it and they don't spend a thought on it.

So you are saying you don't want to know how fucked up humanity really is?  Take a pre WW2 USA stance on the world.

I heard they might be doing some bad things to the Jews in Europe.  Does that really affect me?  No so fuck it.

I'm with you that I don't really give a fuck how fucked up shit is but when my country is doing the fucking over bullshit then I'd like to know.  We managed to completely fuck up the Middle East.  I don't give a shit about any Middle East country but it is fucked up what we did with our meddling.  We might as well flown planes over Iraq and dropped trillions of USA dollars on them because I'm pretty sure their country would be better off than us invading it.
