gta is sandbox
mgs is"tactical epionage action
uncharted is adventure
zelda is rpg?

Zelda-Action/ Adventure
Uncharted-Action
GTA-Action/Adventure
MGS-Action
All these games are basically the same genre.

MGS: It says it right there on the box. Tactical Espionage Action. :P

GTA is a sandbox action game.

Zelda is an action/adventure.

Uncharted is a TPS with platforming and action/adventure elements, I guess. That one's kind've tricky, actually.

I don't think 'sandbox' is an 'official' genre
as in that I've never seen it listed as an option in genre searching on major game-sites,
also not as ''sandbox/....''

same counts for Third Person Shooters
also not a generally accepted genre I think..

Sandbox isn't a genre rather than a way to describe a game as nonlinear. For Example most wrpgs are sandbox games , because they have the following classifications found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_game#Common_features_of_sandbox-style_video_gaming/
* Never-ending gameplay: The user is allowed to play forever, and the game (or mode) is generally designed with this in mind rather than the completion of particular goals or levels in order to reach a grand finale.
* Freedom to experiment: The player can choose his or her own path in the game, either with no consequences or with consequences that can later be undone (often resulting in a flexible and organic development of the player's character or even of the entire game).
* Non-linear or nonexistent plot. If there is a plot at all, the player can simply ignore it, or there is a branching plot that evolves based on user choices (resulting in a game that is never the same twice unless played in exactly the same manner).

I would list GTA as an Action/Adventure with a sandbox style.

what sc9 says is a bit what I thought too
that they are all 4 maybe
action/adventures

Genres only exist (as they do with paperbacks and films) to let people who want to know what they're getting (and frequently dislike getting something new) know what they're getting.

p.s. sc94597 love the idea that Zelda is action/adventure and Uncharted is only action (what, no adventure?)...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well imo it is a little too linear to be an adventure game. The worlds aren't as large. The game is good just not a full-fledged adventure game.

I know I was just gently joking and am laughing with you, as in I found the concept funny, rather than at your view (if you what I mean).
