Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated during an investor’s call that:

As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming. But that’s our perception, we don’t have any confidential information on that front.

We really like the fact that Sony and Microsoft are really putting more power in their machines, using the evolution of technology to give power to our developers to create better games for our players. That is going in the right direction rather than trying to do accessories or other things. That is going to help the industry a lot because the games will be really beautiful on those machines.

I think he is proberbly right, the next 2-3 years will lead the 4k to becoming the definitive standard and the next generation will go beyond what the mid-gen ugprades are capable of and offer a huge boost to backwards compatible titles that have been upgraded recently to people who didn't end up buying the Pro/Xbox one X

Well yes, I don't think anyone was expecting them earlier then holiday 2019.

Well except Teriol who thought PS5 would have to be rushed to the market because Switch and Scorpio would eat PS4 sales...

What a bold position.

Honestly with the release of the Pro and Xbox 1 X it will be quite some time before something that feels worthy of being called "next-gen" would actually be affordable.

It's possible that the next gen will be only a modest improvement over the Xbox 1 X and Pro as the majority of gamers don't actually make the upgrade, but that seems like it would take some of the steam out of the next gen... Either way, 2019 does seem like the earliest possible date.

Is this Patcher level of being obvious?

PS4 is still increasing YOY sales, X1X just launched... I would say it is even more likely to have PS5 and Xboxnext in 3 years than in less than 2 years from today. 2020 is the earliest, with 2021 being a possibility.
