Damn man, glad he's recovering.
Totally agree about always wearing a helmet, for falls and slower collisions they are lifesavers.

I call those who don't wear helmets "Temporary Australians". Thankfully it's law here to wear a helmet.
They save lives and reduce injuries.

Recently decided to get a Bell helmet which has the removable chin bar and MIPS. Deff a step-up over my 661. But doesn't colour match. Haha

Que "Cheater".
But I like a motor (I am not a Lycra wearing roadie). - And both my bicycles have a 1kw electric motors, it's great peace of mind when you are out in the middle of dingo whoop whoop where phone-coverage is non-existent, you still have to pedal of course if you want any sort of range.
Contemplating getting a 3rd bike (Non-Electric) for Downhill/single track stuff.

Around the Network

It happened to me now. Yesterday my front wheel slipped out in a downhill corner on a wet asphalt path. It was under trees, extra slick with the fall season starting. I caught myself mostly on my left side, nice road rash on my left forearm, elbow, left shoulder, left wrist has a bruise, some skin off my right knee and another smaller spot on my right forearm. I washed it out with my water bottles and continued. It still stings since I just had a shower again. Days accident free back to zero.

I've been going out in the morning the past 2 weeks for a shorter faster ride. Around 50km, back home within 1h 45. I managed an average speed of 29.5 kph on a 47km route when the wind was favorable. A bit less, 28 kph on roads like these:

It was nice to cycle with the sunrise for a change, looks very different with the light from the other direction, but today I was back to the afternoon. It was already down to 4c this morning, a high of only 17c today. August has been quite a bit below historical average temperatures. It looks like September won't be much different but it should at least still get over 20c.

I got passed by one of those E-Bikes today. He must have been going over 40 kph judging by how fast he overtook me while pedalling along on a long straight section. It had a pretty heavy bulky frame and wide tires. I wonder what the stopping distance is for something like that. They are not banned for nothing from the bike trails.  He was stopped talking to some people 5km further on the trail. It looked closest to this model:

That's one expensive bike, tops out at 45 kph. Must be fun riding one of those but I'll stick to my own power. I hurt myself enough already!
