Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo: it will make “significantly more units” of the SNES Classic than the NES Mini

Available stock is one of the big concerns with the just-announced Super NES Classic Edition. As we saw with the NES Classic Edition, it was extremely difficult for most consumers to order a unit, and shipments ceased only a few months after the initial launch.

Perhaps we won’t have to be quite as worried with the Super NES Classic Edition. In an official statement, Nintendo says it will make “significantly more units” in comparison to the NES Classic Edition.

The company’s full statement reads:

“We aren’t providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition.

Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition is currently planned to ship from Sept. 29 until the end of calendar year 2017. At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year.

Our long-term efforts are focused on delivering great games for the Nintendo Switch system and continuing to build momentum for that platform, as well as serving the more than 63 million owners of Nintendo 3DS family systems. We are offering Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition in special recognition of the fans who show tremendous interest our classic content.”

So, it looks like it'll just be a holiday item, much like what the NES Mini was.

It needs to be enough to a point where Scalpers cannot take a whole retailers supply.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Man I hope I'm able to get one. If not two, one for my mom.

Given this will feature content that has never before been released, I would hope they will make a point of making more units...
But it's definitely hard not to be cynical...

Have a nice day...

Wonder what happens when people start exploiting the hardware and putting the entire SNES library on there. See if they're still cool about it.

I will believe it when I see it, don't expect it to be much better than with the NES classic

They'll produce 10 more units than the NES classic I bet.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
