Why not port all last-gen third party games to Wii when we're at it? |
Most 3rd parties are porting last gen games to the Wii, it's an inexpensive, lazy way to make a buck (Okami, RE4, Lego Star Wars, Brothers in Arms, Bully, House of the Dead 2 & 3, and Ghost Squad.) ALL of these games are done well, and play great on the Wii, but it is also true that they are quick buck ports. The third party idea of Wii love seems to be to add Wiimote support to an old game and make Ninty fans feel like they are giving us something special.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'd rather see these ports come out in the first year and half of the Wii's life than some of the quickly produced shovelware titles that also appeared in that time (Soul Caliber Legends says hello). But third parties seem to think this is all they have to do. With all the money Capcom made just off RE4, they should create several new Wii IP's. But I think they will use this money to offset high development costs for the PS360 consoles.
As the Wii closes in on 45%, and then 50% of the worldwide market it's ridiculous that so many games are released with no work spent on the controls, rushed graphics, no promotion, or are just poorly produced shovelware.
That said, GH1&2 would be great Wii ports. Even with the high penetration of the worldwide maket the PS2 had (has), there are lots of people who never had a PS2 and have a Wii. They might already have a Wii guitar, why buy more guitars to play 1&2. A reasonable port would be huge, mark my words.
