Makes sense. I believe it. Metroid, other than Zelda, fits the style of the switch and needs to be shown in some form early on. After lackluster sales of Other M, the recent announcement of 2DS XL pulling traditional 2D, and developers still cautious about their larger games being viable on the Switch, a 2D Metroid does not seem a good fit right now. Perhaps as a flagship for the final transition from the 3DS line, but not right now. Nintendo needs more concept establishing firepower to prove the worth of Switch similar to Breath of the Wild.
I enjoyed the discussion about Call of Duty as well, but rather than chase after existing franchises from developers that are graphics hungry, Nintendo has an opportunity with the Switch to prove once and for all that graphics are a dead end until we address interface. We need more quality IPs that take advantage of the uniqueness of the Switch style and format. One or two hitters like Metroid or the right quirky and quality ports can do this. (Looking forward to the Thumper and RIME releases) Once Switch fever shows no signs of stopping and begins to change the accepted form of traditional game hardware, then these developers will also change this "graphics and power" strategy, for the time being. Still, if the ports and franchises come, then they come. The more the merrier.
