The war wasn't over until the US left Iraq. It officialy lasted 8 years. NK would absolutely use civilians as shields. Hell, they would probably give guns to children so US soldiers would have to shot them. So, compared to Iraq, they are better armed, have more soldiers, are completely obsessed with their leader (a good portion of Iraq population was against Saddan) and will act with total disregard international laws with way more ease. It would be an ugly war, for sure.

The only "easy" wars we have is when someone quits. Like Gulf War. For millions of North Koreans, Jong-un is a god. I wouldn't count on them quitting.

We didn't fight an army for 8 years. We fought people.

Well, who exactly were you fighting? Because if it was just people that wanted you out, they had every right to, as the USA was illegally and violently occupying the country.

I really hoped that Kim Jong Un was going to change things once daddy died. Considering it's the same ol same ol it appears he is as bat shit crazy as his father. I feel so bad for the NK people.

I wonder what would happen if we hacked their state TV channel and said something along the lines of "A message for your supreme leader: We don't care about you, stop building your military and feed your people and we will leave you alone. You're China's problem and frankly we fell sorry for your general population. Good day to you."
I bet that crazy little bastard would blow a gasket.

The world is perhaps on the verge of a nuclear confrontation, but the lair in chief Trump is at Mar-a-Lago and playing golf.  I'm not even American and I can't stand him. How can Americans put up with this guy???

Well, that's a self-defense mechanism. There's not really a choice, so many people shut down in order to manage day-to-day living.

On one hand, I want the North Korean government to fall, however on the other hand I don't want them being replaced by other regimes that are going to repress them. I don't have too much confidence in that.

Depends on what happens. Either China will take control over NK after the fall of it, or the US/SK will. If China takes it, I think it'll be a bit better than now. It may still be a dictatorship or perhaps China will absorb it, which I could see since that'd give China more water area, which China wants. If the US takes it, they'll probably hand it over to SK and slowly integrate it back into a single Korea. Those are what I see happening at least. In either scenario, the country is better off.

Military occupation and state transition would have to be handled by China, who is the only "friendly" country to North Korea. American occupation would likely end in disaster due to the population being fed 50 years of anti-Western propaganda, it would be best to just stick with non-military aid and to normalize relations.

I'm just using the official dates from the web. Fighting people or an army it's not that different: you have to use tons of cash, soldiers die, you shoot people. War is not that simple. Take ISIS for example. They aren't an army representing a nation, but it's basically the same.

They don't have the right to shoot at us, and if they didn't we wouldn't have the right to shoot back. They can want us out all they want.

You didn't specify who it was. And yes, they can shoot American soldiers, as American soldiers are there when they shouldn't be. That is their home, they don't have anywhere else to go, while the American soldiers could just go right back to the US to avoid getting killed.
