Pretty keen to buy a new rts as the SC2 expansions just didnt do it for me. Do i need to play the first?

Nope! Halo Wars 1 was a Prequel anyway. Halo Wars 2 is set much later.

You might miss out on some back story on a few characters like Cutter, but it should not be a deal breaker.

With that in mind... Halo Wars 1 had a fantastic single player campaign, it is worth grabbing that as well if you can, it's aged wonderfully too, even on 360.

It really is. I'm a lifetime halo fan and after 5's abysmal story I had very little interest in the non mp parts of halo. The narrative for this one is night and day better(so far at least I saw the cutscenes for the first 2 missions. 15 minutes of cgi!!). Keep Brian reed(he was main writer of 5)away from halo.

Agreed. Halo 5 was yick. Also a lifetime Halo fan. Own every Halo game, on every single platform it has ever released on. iOS, Windows Phone, Steam, Windows Store, OSX, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One. All of them.

Actually buying two copies of Halo Wars 1+2. One for Xbox One and the other for PC. (Already got Halo Wars 1 on 360.)

Friday (17th) can't come fast enough.
