Which is why I stopped playing ME2 after about ten minutes.  I kept reading "RPG of the year" and bought it without really looking into it.  What I got was ... not what I was expecting.  Cover shooters are one of my least favorite types of gameplay so I'm not sure if I'll give it another go or not.  Thought about trying the first one to see if I could get into the story despite that.

I think you should, and try not to give up this time, let the game have its time to get into you, I'm a gameplay whore and I still was really cautivated about the first Mass Effect despite the less than impressive combat gameplay.
