Forums - Politics Discussion - Man with schizophrenia sentenced to death; pakistani judges say it isn't a disorder

https://www.rt.com/news/363716-pakistan-mental-execute-court/

To summarize the story, a man with intense schizophrenia killed a religious scholar back in 2001. After being ordered to death, prosecutors said it wasn't fair due to his illness. Now, judges have made the decision to kill him, saying schizophrenia isn't a permanent mental disorder.

I don't see how the judges can live with themselves knowing they're sentencing a man with severe schizophrenia to death. The dude probably doesn't even realize he's gonna be killed.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

He killed a guy in 2001? So it took them 15 years to decide that? :O

Anyways, I don`t know enough about the case to really comment, but if a sane man would have been sentenced to death for the same thing then I don`t see why this should be any different. If you killed someone, then you killed someone. No mental disease can be used as an excuse for that and you should face the same punishment that anyone else would have.

The differnce is the guilt of it.

If a sane person knowly does wrong, sure he gets his due, he knows the rules, and chose to be in that situation.

A insane person, might not be in controll of his own body (or remember) doing this act. Thats the differnce. The insane guy had no controll when it happend.

Some people think only the outcome matters. I personally believe a persons intent, matters just as much or more so.

Imagine the sweetest kindest person alive... a saint.

But hes mentally ill, and at some point isnt lucid or in controll of his own actions, and does something like this.

Is he a bad man? no its the sickness, he wasnt lucid when it happend.

Just out of curiousity,....  What is the health care system like in Pakistan?

Do they help the mentaliy ill with medicin ect?
