Forums - Politics Discussion - Philippines Announces Break With USA, Allies Itself With China and Russia

Who cares, let them deal with their own stuff. Countries should mind their own damn business, that goes for the US, China, Russia, etc. Bunch of busybodies always causing problems and exhibiting massive greed.

I would say he is a good leader for his people and the country's well being, but he is horrible when it comes to world diplomacy.

That's because he sucks at how he says things.

I shit you not my friend before that cut ties thing he already said he is not breaking any alliances with anyone, he was in China already then and just tonight he clarified that he is going a different foreign policy than the one the US wants but cannot SEVER ties with them.

But he used the word SEPARATE which means the same thing. I tell you guys, he is freaking over 9999 hopeless when talking. Too old and anyone who has a hard nosed grand pa can probably relate.

He was trying to flatter the Chinese to get more money and ended up generalizing cutting ties with the US which he already clarified he would not. Hopeless with words I tell you.

There are times we just want him to shut up because he already did great with his talking points then he goes out of script and BOOM wtf moment, confuse everyone harder than a flash bang.

Good to hear some first hand opinion from thr country.  Sounds like the western media blowing everything out of proportion as usual.

It's not very smart to cause US businesses and investors to reconsider moving into or expanding operations in the region, or even think about relocation.  They add billions to the economy.  A lot of CEOs and board members probably spent a lot of time on conference calls over this and I'm not sure they're just going to laugh it off.

No, it doesn't.  He said one thing then got back home and said another.

TIL the Philippines leaving America will devastate pbroy.

I know I should care, but how will this effect us? Do we have a military base there?

Ok the US left the bases in the 90's due to budget cuts, but in 2012 the US got permission to use them again.

No the US bases got shut down because our Congress voted upon it. I have no idea how people outside of the Philippines got fed of this propaganda.

The reason is because the US won't pay more for the rent but our government at that time said it's for our sovereignty which is bullshit on it's own because it was not the real reason.

To be honest both government played hardball at that time like a stinking break up between girlfriend and boyfriend that happened because of money.

Technically, the US didn't get them back. The EDCA treaty allows the US to have military presence on Philippine Military bases, it's not like before where the Americans have exclusivity of the bases. Then of course, there was the Visiting Forces Agreement that we have before that, that allows US Military to stay over and do joint exercise.

Actually, he said one thing and then said another and then came back to the first thing he said.

But the first one he said about not breaking the alliances was never published outside of social media and he made it worse by saying SEPARATION then comes home and said it's different from SEVER which is technically the same because it's a Synonym.

But the US chamber of commerce here in the Philippines echoed the same sentiments everybody has cutting ties with the US is not gonna happen. The US is our 2nd biggest trade partner (China first) and Duterte said so himself that the alliance with the US is binding under our constitution and he was not about to break it.

but he just had to go off script and caused CONFUSIONISM again. Worse he's not gonna change how he speaks.

He's both saving us and killing us at the same time. I guess balance is the key to everything.
