Iphone 7's biggest issue is its home button, not the headphone jack

Forums - General Discussion - Iphone 7's biggest issue is its home button, not the headphone jack

I like looking around Target when I'm bored. Even if I buy nothing, it's worth walking around and seeing if there's anything new. The atmosphere is great and the cleanliness and organization is always satisfying.

When I screwing around in Target yesterday, I realized that they had Iphone 7's available for display/purchase(surprised they didn't sell out). I chose to look at the phone and see if theres anything neat about it. It didn't look that bad, and I expected myself to like it. That is, until I touched the home button.

There wasn't a click. No matter how hard I pounded the home button, it didn't make a sound at all(only a vibration). After looking at Apple's website, it seems as though it only provides vibrations when it senses a finger.

I'm surprised how thousands of headlines were about the removal of the headphone jack, and yet no one even talked about how they messed up the home button.

I put my shirt over my finger and tried to 'click' the home button- nothing happened. My guess on the button only responding to fingers is true. How the hell will people use this during winter? Not only that, but why did they take it upon themselves to make the home button like this? I get the headphone jack, but now the home button? What was wrong with it? It was perfectly fine, and yet Apple chose to mess around with it.

When you start to try to "reinvent" what's more than fine enough already, that's when you know you're running out of ideas :P

Going from an iPhone 4S to a Nexus 6, one of the biggest things I miss is the home button. Sure, the digital one on the Nexus doesn't break, but it doesn't have a satisfying tactile response either (and takes up space on the screen, but that's another story :S)

The biggest issues for me:
1) No Headphone Jack.
2) Low-resolution screens.
3) Doesn't use an industry-wide-supported connector (USB) for power and data transfer used in everything from PC's to consoles to Bus's to Planes to Cars to Power Outlets.
4) All at a high price. (I buy my phones outright. I can afford it.)

The iPhone is now more water resistant hence the removal of the home button. It's now a home touch finger sensor pad thingy so water can't seep into the button.

So its like the xperia home button?

I havn't tried the home button but at least its there... I believe they got the idea to make it like that cause there were complaints that the home button (not limited to apple devices) breaks more frequently than it should cause of how people press it. But don't quote me on that cause I heard it from a friend.

Where as the headphone jack... RIP

The winter argument is stupid. If you don't have touchscreen gloves you won't be able to operate the phone either even if you can press the home button.
From what I've heard the feedback actual feels like a click, so they even did something for the tactical fetishists. There is nothing wrong with the button. Like there is nothing wrong with no headphone jack. Those are just petty complains from people who can apparently afford an iphone but can't adjust to progress.

They did this because space within a smartphone is premium, every cubic millimeter counts. So they will eliminate everything that consumes too much space. Big USB ports, big home buttons, big camera lenses, headphone jacks, SD slots etc. How do you think they'r still able to improve the phones without actually growing in size?

I guess criticizing something you dislike means you're petty.

Critisizing isn't. But making a big deal out of non-issues and trying to apply non-arguments to make the complaint seem valid is.

You made a whole thread complaining about a home button that is fully functional. Yep, that's petty. Do you even have an iPhone or a real intention to buy one?

Yeah, cause everybody wants to pay $160 for their earphones... Why the complaint?... I swear...
