Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is my WiiU broken? :( (Wii mode/Wii VC not working)

So, I just tried to start my spiffy new Pikmin Wii Vc game from the wiiU menu and it just wont work.

Whenever I try to start any Wii VC game from the WiiU menu I get the usual prompt about having to use the Wiimote and whatnot, I select my preferred Displaymode, get the splash screen and then, nothing.

The console makes a singular clicking noise, shows the Wii screen (Sometimes it doesn't even do that) and then it's about 30 seconds of black screen before it auromatically goes back to the WiiU menu.

The only exception to this pattern is Xenoblade Chronicles, wich still plays fine.

Has anyone else encountered this? Anyone know a way to fix it? Or is my WiiU bust now? :'(

I have not, but I must say I hate how they handed the Wii to Wii U transition.

Yeah, it's not elegant. I wish they had incooperated gamepad controls (at least for hub functions) and generally treated all Wii VC games more like Xenoblade Chronicles. I'm perfectly happy with hos they handles that one, but the rest of them feel just clunky.

My consoles Wiimode still works and so does Xenoblade Chronicles wich makes me suspect this is a problem on the software side, raher than the Hardware one, though.

I used to have this exact problem for a couple months about a year ago and then it just stopped happening. I can't tell you how I fixed it because I still don't know how it got fixed, but maybe if you just wait it out a bit it might fix itself as well, but of course, there's no promising it will fix itself for you. Also, strangely enough, Xenoblade Chronicles was the one game that worked for for me as well. It wouldn't work for Super Paper Mario, Skyward Sword, or Super Mario Galaxy 2, which I think are the only games I tried it with. But yeah, mine is working perfectly fine, so I have no idea what happened.

Wierd. But that sort of confirms my suspicion that this is a software bug and not a Hardware fault though, wich means it might get fixed in a sneaky update by Nintendo. (Hopefully they will, even though they don't really support the WiiU anymore...)

Glad to hear that it fixed itself for you though!

I'm going to try and move some Wii games from my external harddrive to my system storage. Maybe Wii Mode has trouble connecting to it? If that fails I'm either calling Nintendo, or just hoping that it fixes itself, like it did for you.

Yeah, I think it would be best to call Nintendo to see if they can fix it, but they would likely charge you for the repair, which might be a problem.  I kind of just ignored it for awhile, because at the time I had a Wii to fall back on whenever I felt like playing any Wii games.

Also, I'd play around with your video modes as well. That might help.

Unfortunately I don't have a Wii to fall back on anymore. I guess I could play my physical Wii games in the meantime since at least Wii Mode still works, though.

Thanks for the Link! I'd never have deleted the connection files. I'll see if that works and will try to change the video modes around.

I'll updates this, just in case someone runs across the same problem. After playing around, with a lot of diffrent stuff, moving the games from the external HDD into system memory worked for me.

It still wont run the games off the HDD (even though it runs every other game off it perfectly fine) but at least I can play them again, as long as I move them into system memory first.

Thanks for the help!

Not had this problem, but I mostly have only played Wii mode games via their discs, haven't had the opportunity to play downloaded Wii games from my external harddrive.
