Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX: Is nintendo merging with nvidia shield?

Points: rumors pointing to a NVidia tegra on the next nintendo system and nvidia giving up on the next generation of nvidia shield.

So, could nintendo NX be a merge of a Nintendo system and nvidia shield?

Nvidia shield has no market(i dont know about sales, but i dont think they passed 1 million worldwide), and AMD are on all console custom chips, and nintendo have some market(70 million with wii U+3DS) thanks to their IP, but lacks of third party software. A merged NX-shield with nintendo games and acess to steam and its games and PC stream and android, and etc with all a nintendo system and nvidia shield could offer, can make nvidia shield and a nintendo system much more appealing.

Nvidia just wants to sell their chips, they make the shield because its 1) a good product but also shows of their chips in a market where not many others use it.

If Nintendo wants to make a console using Nvidia chips and they get a good share, maybe they don't have to make Shield units anymore, on the other hand, Nvidia proberbly wants to release new products/chips more often then Nintendo wants to make a new console cycle.

I don't see a merge, but I could see Nvidia taking a step back in releasing own hardware, only time will tell, also it depends on (if they release it with Nvidia) the success of the NX above anything else, for sure!

Doubt it... Nintendo would want all the profits since nd they are very successful in the handheld market. No reason to share when they can have it all

Nvidia shield is part of Nvidia so they can t "merge" with Nvidia shield as it is not a company- even if you are talking about a merger w Nvidia still no chance of this happening at all for many many reasons-

your post does not make sense and is neither thought out or researched

NVidia might stop producing Shield tablets since 1) they don't sell that well anyway, and 2) to leave room to the much more successful Nintendo handheld. But a merge? Where did that come from? Why would you think that?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Nintendo is going to flake out on the deal last minute, instead teaming up with AMD. This will royally piss of Nvidia's CEO. In retaliation, Nvidia will create a new home console to directly compete with the Neo, Scorpio, and NX.

It will be called the Shieldsphere, and it will win the generation, putting the big three out of business, and creating a monopoly until Valve rises from the ashes to save us all with an even better Steambox.

All hail Lord Gaben. Just reveal it already.

nope.

Nintendo wants full controll over the OS and hardware.
Nvidia is just happy to sell the chip.

jonathanalis your reaching here, theres nothing to suggest a merger.

I think what your trying to ask is if Nintendo will at steam functionality or the ability to stream your PC hardware to their handheld NX while also allowing it to work as a link to your to for other devices. I suggested this over a year ago. It would be too good to be true.m

I sort of agree with you, but think you presented it poorly.

NX can:
1) use Tegra's latest and show off its capability as well as provide revenue from 10's of millions of sales
2) have good userbase based on Nintendo's IPs
3) have increased userbase based on easy 3rd party ports as demonstrated by Tegra's ability to run PC games, middleware (which is what all 3rd party games are built on), and traditionally decent 3rd party support for Nintendo's handheld division.
4) NX is a game console with home and portable functionality

This combined with the lack of sales and/or interest in the Shield, then yes you can sort of consider the NX as encompassing what Nvidia wanted out of Shield.
