Any car that costs more than 70€ a month is a waste of money, which I believe is all of them. Add to that the lost time while driving the car, it's actually ridiculous that some people claim that a car is value. It might be for some people in remote areas that have too much money anyway but it's a joke where I live. If I want to have fun driving I grab my bike.

How far is your flat from the next bus or train station and how frequent are the buses/trains starting in the desired direction? If I were living in Berlin or Munich, I wouldn't need a car either.

But in most small to medium towns the buses drive only every 1 or 2 hours (and they aren't driving in the evening or night at all) and they don't drive directly to your destination, so you waste a lot more time using public transport and are less flexible. You can also transport much more when you go shopping, so it is much more convenient.

I live in Berlin and the next train station is 2 min away and trains go every 5 min in the morning. Even from the town border I only need 30 min to the inner city.

So yeah, getting a car is probably the worst waste of money for me.
