Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox To Require Sign In Every 5 Years To Maintain Gamertag

A bit unfair on people who skip a generation and don't know this. What if someone converts from 360 to ps4 (of which there are many), skips the x1 but returns for the xb2. He may not realise this rule change and will lose his account.

You do realize its only the gamertag, and not the actual account. You'll be prompted to create a new gametag when you sign in. And are you telling me that signing into the Xbox website every few years takes a lot of effort?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Yes.

Yes it does.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Yeah I do realise that and I still think it's stupid. I'd be sickened if I lost my psn name.

5 years... too much. 2 should be plenty enough.

I would say even just one year. If you are completely inactive on your account for one year across all devices then your GT opens up to everyone.

Five years is way too long. I'm hate it when inactive users hold awesome names hostage for years on end. Should be 2 years tops. Preferably just one.

But your account and games stay fine?   Seems that stays fine, even after loseing gamertag.

Do you lose your achievements if you lose your GamerTag under this rule?

^ this is another good question.

I was thinking so myself, but 1 year could easily happen though, working abroad, doing some traveling etc etc. But two years is rarely the case which is why i settled for it ;)

There are services that kill your account faster. 5 years is actually pretty generous considering how precious the tags can be for new users.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It should be 2 years and a half. Enough time for people who care about their GT to log in. I wanted Heruokaneoukinot but it was taken, but hasnt logged in years. Had to settle with Hirouakan. Unbelievable...
