Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo in today's popular culture

I'm curious to what you guys think of Nintendo in the modern pop culture, regardless of their presence in the video game industry. Back in the 90's and early 2000's, we've seen their presence in numerous multimedia outlets. Yes not all of them were great per se, but they built that Nintendo presence to those beyond the gaming community. From the bombed Mario Bros. movie to the Kirby and F-Zero anime to the Super Show and Captain N to manga to merchandise and other products like cereal, a pretty good amount of Nintendo's IPs received some spotlight beyond their games to become franchises. Heck, Pokemon became, and still is, it's completely own thing with its anime, series of manga, merchandise, films, etc.

nowadays, with new tech and social media outlets, there a new opportunities to get your IPs out there, even seeing fans get more involved. Fan art (while not really new, but more accessible), concerts, parodies, etc. are all the rage in today's world. Some of these highlights for Nintendo these days include:

- Pokemon Go (both for the app and the crazy phenomenon after its release)

- Concerts - live like the Zelda and Pokemon Symphonies and vocaloid-like as the Squid Sisters (who just performed recently in Europe)

- Upcoming theme parks

- Collector's items like the Lucina and ALBW Link figmas; Amiibo; Trading cards like Fire Emblem and Pokemon

- Memes/Gifs - Yes, Nintendo have a few of there own including the Luigi Death Stare, Wailuigi's Suck It taunt, and the Wombo Combo in Melee.

- Anime/Films - Cameos and references galore in projects like Wreck-it-Ralph and Pixel. Plus, the upcoming plans for potential films and tv projects. Also, Pokemon since their anime is still going strong and they're still releasing their films in Japanese theaters.

- Fans - From fan art to cosplays, you've might've seen a few people at cons wearing costumes related to Nintendo characters

- YouTube - I think this speaks for itself. Just do a quick search and find whatever you want to watch about Nintendo :P

So what do you guys think of Nintendo in modern pop culture?

Around the Network

It's rare that I encounter Nintendo in pop culture, except for Pokemon from time to time and whose popularity I always attributed to the anime (didn't know it was a game before). The reality is that I spent my childhood in Africa where Nintendo is non-existent. Australia is a more outdoorsy country where typically geek culture isn't really prevalent.

That is hard. Different countries, continents, environments, socioeconomic, culture, etc. can contribute to awareness.

While the Wii U failed to take off, Nintendo is still quite mainstream...
I regularly see Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon apparel worn by small children and grown adults alike...

Have a nice day...

I´m not sure about pop culture..... but merchandising with Nintendo characters is everywhere, from toys to office supplies to clothing to magazines/books etc., at least in my country.
If they really embrace mobile gaming, they certainly will be more and more popular.
