Forums - Nintendo Discussion - EGM Rumors: Wii/DS Tecmo Bowl and Mickey Platformer Coming

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167052

And whatever happened to that Tecmo Bowl revival that was announced last year? Quartermann says the game is still in the works, with a classic version coming to the DS and a revamped, modern remake headed to the Wii. Look for more info on that in the pages of EGM very soon...

Ever since Disney bought his studio, thus crushing our dreams for Ninja Gold, we've wanted to know just what the heck ace developer Warren Spector is working on. Hints were dropped on http://download.gamevideos.com/Podcasts/CGW/021908.mp3">GFW Radio, but Quartermann claims to have the skinny. Word is that Spector's new Disney project will be a platformer looking to compete with a certain pesky plumber. And who's big enough to take on Nintendo's star? Only the mouse himself!

The Q is good for fueling speculation, but anything from the rumors section is just that. -A rumor. Hopefully, it comes true, though. I loved Tecmo Bowl. The 16-Bit versions were lame, but the 8-Bitters are still mindless fun.

I wouldn't be surprised about the Mickey platformer. I don't think Tecmo Bowl would sell now, not enough people would care at all.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

A Mickey platformer competitive with Mario? Give me a break. Mario is still selling in the multi-millions, while Mickey is about as relevant as... well... any other pop culture icon who ceased to be relevant a couple of decades ago.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Mickey is very marketable, I could see it selling well with the casuals. Especially around cmas when parents are buying the games.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Mickey had a ton of games for the SNES, Genesis, and N64. They were pretty, but not exactly fun or original. Is anyone excited about that dead horse being beaten?

If Warren Spector is working on it, you can be sure that it will at the very least be decent.  The Disney brand has a lot of diversity (see: Kingdom Hearts) and I can picture a platformer visiting the different worlds in much the same way that you do as Sora.  I think it could turn out to be huge, if Disney lets the developers do what they know how to do.
