It got a book that basically acted as a sequel.

Solid source material to make a sequel then!

I bought it just to play the Reach beta...   I think I played through the story once but only because I had that opportunity.  Sold it a month later :P

Kinect Adventures was such a beast. And an evergreen title, much like Nintendo games. It started not that hot, but slowly made its way into the select 20m sellers. Impressive.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

You're right to an extent.. but that's just it, it's just an extent. Microsoft at least actually tries to make compelling new experiences with their platform whereas Sony is relying strictly on remasters. It's not a way to push the industry forward IMO.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Rare Replay, and Gears of War Ultimate Edition on Xbox One beg to differ, as does The Last Guardian, Bloodborne, and Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4. I don't particularly like jumping to Sony's defense, but both of them have their fair share of remasters.

I'm like 99% certain that Sony releases more new IP than Microsoft, and more varied genres.
