Forums - General Discussion - Heil the greatest!

Last week I made a certain thread, simply to make a point about gaming communities. But I committed the mistake of using a specific company as the means of delivering said point. Sadly, nothing went as I expected, as per usual, and my thread was treated as mere trolling and bait, even when I clearly stipulated that you could replace said company with any other. No matter, because I'm giving it a second chance, this time making sure I don’t address any particular company, in the hopes that my thread doesn't get misinterpreted for what I think it's not. Like I said, my intention wasn't to praise or defile any given company or fanbase, but make a point about gaming communities and gamers in general (myself included). It goes like this:

Today (or last week) I realized that, without doubt, [insert company/game] is the greatest. I know what you are thinking. “But FunFan, you are the biggest [insert company/game] hater ever!”. Thing is, I'm tired of this pretense. I always knew the truth. That, deep inside, I always wanted to be part of [insert company/game] intelligent debates. I'm being serious. There is no catch.

There is a problem, however. And I think its root lies in the oversensitiveness of gaming communities on the web. Trolling, flaming? Those things at worst would pass as mere mild jokes in real life. But queue gamers loosing their shit whenever someone else dislikes something they like. Never mind the fact that for an actual intelligent debate you need opposing arguments. But how dare people match a positive argument with an equally negative one. And with such cruelty, oh God! We don't need honesty, we need sugar. A lot of it.

But all it's fine. Because I finally understand. [insert company/game] is the greatest. Thinking otherwise is dumb, especially if you like sticking around. After all, this is not a democracy and we reserve the right of admission. That's why there is only one intelligent debate and that's the debate about how great the greatness of [insert company/game] is.

There is no catch. There is no sarcasm. There is no condescension. There is, simply, no choice.

I will include a link to the previous thread, here. Not to promote it, but for the sake of transparency. I hope the intentions of those who follow the link are merely academical as the thread was heavily panned and, almost, instantly locked with good reason. Aparently, it was full of evil and deceit. (Or, maybe, it just understandably "forced" a particular member or group of the the oversensitive gaming communities into employing swift censoring tactics.)

The lesson to be learnt is that not everyone is blessed with a sense of humor, so the only way to get approval from such individuals for panning something is if the expressed statements are in line with the views of such an individual.

Those same expressed statements will loose all flavor in the transition.
