Forums - Nintendo Discussion - XBox Is Weak, Nintendo Needs To Go For the Kill

NX needs to outclass the XBox One. No ifs, ands, or buts. Nintendo needs to get over MS being something special ... they make a lot of mistakes just like everyone else, and can be taken down. With Halo declining and MS not being able to expand their brand much outside of the US, now is the time to jump on them and reclaim at least a 2nd place spot (for the long term).

To outclass will cost to be more powerfull will mean higher costs.

Think, PS4 X1 bee out for years, supply lines manafacturing all is coming down.  Ninty with NX will be just starting, even if same power it will cost more just do to it being launch year for it.

To outclass software wise in its first year would mean billions in investments now.  Not happening.

There is nothing they can do, their mistakes have likely set them on a road out of hardware and into becoming 3rd party (id say best thing that can happen to them)

Nintendo is in an extremely tough spot. People forget, but with us all being on vgchartz, you can easily look it up. Nintendo has been crushed 3 of the last 4 console generations. Crushed. These numbers are from my memory, PS1 100 million to N64 32 million, PS2 155 million to GameCube 21 million and while still going PS4 30+ million to WiiU 11 million and I believe in each of those Microsoft edged them out, only this time I think the XB1 will handily beat WiiU. I'm a Nintendo man at heart. I own ALL systems spanning 3+ decades, I'm 44, so I am pulling HARD for Nintendo. But it is going to truly be interesting to see how they navigate this. The handheld market has forever shrunk. Tablets and smartphones have devastated it and Japan has nearly turned its back on consoles. Nintendo has its work cut out for it.
Nintendo has made its self the 'family system' and personally I love them for it. I love there purity, yes I know about and own Bayo 2 and will get the much maligned Devil's Third, because even though I love Nintendos purity, I still enjoy a more gritty, mature game. That folks is one of the major conundrums facing Nintendo. How to remain a family system and still have mature games. I LOVE and always will Nintendo magic, wonder and whimsy. I NEVER want to see the colorful, beautiful Nintendo games cease. But that may be their Achilles heal when 8 year olds are playing GTA 5 these days.
The other problem is that Nintendo's sales are built on nostalgia and its fans. Well it's fans are growing up. Gone se those who cut their teeth on NES or SNES, now they are PS1&2 or 360. Also appealing to the casual as the Wii did proved they are a fickle bunch and it indeed was all about the gimmick or the controls.
I'm pulling for them. Microsoft has the deepest pockets. They will be there until the novelty of videos within the company wanes or the shareholders say enough. Sony's PlayStation brand is rock solid, but the company itself is floundering. Nintendo is tremendously conservative and that prudence has paid off. They have soldiered on for over 30 years in video games. Video games is all they do, yes I know the brand Nintendo has done many different things the last 120+ years, but the last 30 it's been video games. Not electronics like Sony and not software like MS, it's their craft. They do it better than anyone so the heart is there, we can only hope with the NX it finds its niche. I hope it out powers PS4/XB1 and manages to be that 'hybrid' handheld/home console and catches fire. I think it would be tremendously tempting for developers if they could make one game to play on both a handheld as well as the console. Currently, separate games using separate resources and money are needed for that now. Imagine developing one game and satisfying both...hmmm, could be huge!

People need to start having more kids to love Mario. Do your part Soundwave. Unleash that sperm bank to all the lonely women out there. Produce the new Nintendo generation!!

There will always be a market for the Nintendo ip, the 3DS/Wii U is loaded and has a strong userbase.  Wave is basically talking about Nintendo being synonymous with video gamers in general, as in, being well rounded and having big 3rd party titles in their library.  Nintendo has been cuckolding it the last 2 gens, but now (with MS being "weaker") need to swallow a couple see-alice and go to war.

These kids dont care about Mario like that. You'll quicker see an Ipad in a kid's hands than a NInty portable

I just can't see Nintendo going full Yeti on MS tbh. Also we need competition, not less of it.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I'm just speaking in general terms, Nintendo cannot function as a hardware maker by being (a distant) third place in the console race. This might have worked in the past when the portable division for Nintendo was selling like 15-20 million units a year like the GBA was and the DS was crushing, but Nintendo's portable are now on decline too. That means that console division needs to stop f*cking around and/or waiting for miracle controllers and get back to *work*.

Third place is not a tenable position for Nintendo in other words if they are serious about staying in the hardware biz.

Microsoft is only really strong in the US. Add to that the fact that their main console IP, Halo, is declining too. With NX, Nintendo needs to aim for 2nd place minimum. Sure, of coure the 1st place fantasy would be nice too, but Playstation is likely far too well entrenched and global of a brand for that to happen most likely. So lets set that aside for the moment.

But Nintendo can take MS IMO. Especially in Europe and Japan *if* they act soon and act decisively. NX should be out next year, it should be front loaded with big gun Nintendo IP, and they should push for as much 3rd party support as possible. NX should also be a large step more powerful than the XB1, leaving MS with the weakest hardware by far, and they should also anticipate MS trying to rush XB2, by making NX future upgradable.

The first year for NX is crucial, they need to come out swinging and sell a lot of units. IMO, Microsoft just isn't on top of their game now, it's time to push them into 3rd place, which may even trigger them exiting the hardware business, which for Nintendo would then give them a lot of breathing room (finally).

XB1 is outselling WiiU nearly 4 to one and you call it weak. Their is really only one week player here and we all know who that is. NX has to succeed or Nintendo are finished. They are the ones who need to prove themselves here.

but I think they need to simply accept it's kill or be killed.

Ah, but that would be more like get killed or get killed.

Nintendos best chance would be a joint venture. But a joint venture with Sony would be bad for competition and thus bad for gamers.

A joint venture between Nintendo and Microsoft would be incredible.

Nintendos consoles are on a decline since the SNES. The only exception was the Wii, which turned out to be a fad. A successful fad, but a fad. Ironically this was a banable offense back then.

So we had SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii U...
Nintendo totally messed up their online gaming business. Dreamcast was introducing it, Microsoft put it on a whole new level and it even took sony years to catch up and if you asked me, XBL is still way superior.

Nintendo did not even care. Even with the DS / Wii money they could have built one if the best online infrastructures in the world, but they didn't even go for it. It needs more than capable hardware to get (serious) third party support. You need a network big and powerful enough to get CoD players, Battlefield players or Fifa players. Nintendo can't provide it right now.

Nintendo managed to be late to the party for HD Gaming, Online Gaming and digital distribution. Speaks volumes about the management.

I know you can buy your games online and play online. It is just nowhere near as big as it is on Xbox Live, PSN or Steam.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
