Forums - General Discussion - I just watched Sunshine... You need to see Sunshine!

It wasn't bad and it's a really interesting concept.

I didn't like it at all.

It's funny. When my friend lent me Sunshine, he said "It's alright, but if you want to see a movie about stuff going wrong in space, you should watch Event Horizon instead".

I find it funny because I really didn't like Event Horizon.

ok, maybe it's not actually funny. Or interesting... Never mind.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

sunshine was a good movie until it reached the end, it was anti-climatic and so hippy...so not my thing...I would have been happier with a supernova explosion of some sort, now that would have been satisfying.

I was pretty bored throughout most of the movie. It got my attention back when they landed in the other space station but overall this m ovie is boring and I give it a 3/10.

What are you looking at, nerd?

Without spoiling everything, it took a direction I didn't quite expect and not sure I liked. But overall, the movie was amazing, the emotion and art in certain camera shots were spectacular. I really did love the movie in the end.

Also, blech, Requiem for a Dream music again...

I agree 100%. The first half of the movie was incredible while the last third or so was merely "very good". The intensity level was amazing and reminded me a lot of 2001 with its methodical pacing through extremely intense events. That's a very good thing because I still believe 2001 to be the greatest science fiction movie ever created.

BTW, how creepy was it when they flashed up the crew's faces when they entered the ship? It took me a bit to realize what Boyle was doing and it creeped me out to no end.

IMO, Sunshine is probably the best science fiction movie I have seen since Event Horizon. It's an extremely well-crafted movie with great characters, great pacing, and great horror moments.

Sunshine was a terrible film.

the horror elements were just stupid.

You have "terrible" tastes if you thought that movie was terrible, with the below average casual hollywood popcorn muck that's out there, like Transformers and Pirates 3. You had a problem with the third reel, that's fine, but the first half of the movie more than makes up for the lackluster ending section.

Honestly, casuals always complain about the ending of a movie, as if the first 2/3rds didn't exist or didn't matter.

This is the very reason everyone flames No Country for Old Men, nonsensically, because they didn't leave the theatre with their average, boring, usual, casual, crap-happy, generic, smile-enducing ending, and instead actually have to examing the preceedings to understand the theme of the film, instead of having it spoonfed to them.

you shouldn't judge people that quickly.

i hated the ending of Transformers, its hard to really determine if the 3rd act had anything going for it. Pirates 3, the less said the better.

i am a film buff. i loves these sorts of films but was bitterly disappointed with Sunshine. It felt like a National Geographic dramatisiation. the dangers they encounter are second rate, you think it's original because its fascinating. The way the characters die off are boring and uneventful. Seriously, the way Chris Evans died in the movie was laughable bad. What i wished Boyle did was play the oxygen part a bit more. Out of the group only 2 could live. At least that would of been the drama and 10 bucks.

I'm not a casual viewer. I love films. I think the best films of 2007 were Away From Her, Mr Brooks, Margot at The Wedding and The Bourne Ultimatum. Juno is great and unusual but i can understand the "hate" for it that is swarming it over the internet. The biggest WTF goes to Southland Tales, you should check it out its out on DVD in the US this week.

BTW, I'm pretty sure Jumper is going to be the worst film of 2008.

Video games aren't stupid. The people that play them are.

He said his name is Robert Capa? Thats a photographer I did a research project on. He died by stepping on a land mine in the Vietnam or Korean war! lol

I'm back...

I think everything‘s revealed now. Thanks to all ignoring using spoiler warnings.

In my opinion the only really good and original movie by Boyle so far - and by far - is Trainspotting. All his other movies are just more or less original variations of his favourite genre highlights. More a decent hommage \ a well-done copy (choose your preferred term, if you agree) than originality. He‘s rushing through the supermarket of movie history, just like most of his young colleagues.

rose byrne = awesome, has anyone seen an early Australian film with her and heath ledger in it called two hands? highly recommended
