I don't think specs really matter, nVidia already has Shield TV that has better specs than last gen consoles.
What I think can be more disruptive is if next iPhone has that pop-up joystick Apple patented.

AppleTV hasn't been a priority for Apple, it's just a little accessorie product they make on the side of their main business. And they've still sold quite a few of them. Steve Jobs in particular never really cared much for the game market and that's likely why Apple doesn't view it as a priority. If they really wanted to, don't kid yourself though, they would make Sony/MS/Nintendo sweat seriously and they would certainly get a massive amount of developer support. EA, Square-Enix, Activision, etc. all those companies would jump all over a real dedicated Apple living room media/game console, they're already all over the iOS platform. The reason why Apple is priming the AppleTV for a bigger place in the product catalog now is they are moving into the digital TV distribution business, a streaming Apple tv service is coming next year apparently, and that means AppleTV is going to have to take a bigger role. So you'll probably see a much larger push for AppleTV this fall whereas before there wasn't really anything. |
Like I said, Apple TV 4 will likely do better than previous generation models due to being an overall better product and having a bigger push from Apple but to say they can go unapposed because they dominate other markets and are a huge company would be like saying in 1999/2000 that Microsoft and the Xbox were destined to dominate console gaming because Microsoft is a massive corporation and dominates the PC operating system market with Windows. That didn't happen just like Apple is guaranteed to dominate console gaming just because they want to.

Apple TV 2015 aka Pippin II
what games would they really offer? Clash of Clans via Apple TV? :)
we need to wait if they are going for streaming games like PS Now. But they need big AAA games. Unless consumers are fine with Angry Birds 2 and other app games on their Apple TV.

i see them more on the android tv side than apple tv.

Both are actually great ideas!
The more devices with Ps Now the better!
Very underrated service imo.

There is a very large gap between games like Angry Birds & AAA titles, that's probably the market that Apple would potentially be looking for with such a device.
