Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shadow of the Colossus... Not really enjoying it?

Then elaborate what they are, or would you rather that I just post the entire definition? I never said that they are bad inherently, and I can infer from the Save Shenmue 3 sig, that they are not bad to you, but I personally would rather my gameplay remain gameplay withing the game, than a timed button press for a result within the game.

Except that a QTE, causes something that you normally cannot perform in the game. So the actual Colossi fights are more akin to Context Sensitive button presses as opposed to QTE's. As for my dislike or like of QTE's, if used sparingly, then I have no ill towards them. But in games that overuse them, such as Heavenly Sword, I take major umbrage against them.

First, Ico is not as good as everyone wants you to think. Second, SotC is awesome... for a game that is 10 years old. I don't know if you can enjoy it now if you haven't play it before. As someone said, if the first boss didn't hook you up, then nothing is going to do it.

Haven't read the posts in the thread aside from the OP, so someone probably replied something similar, but here's my opinion:

Shadow of the Colossus is a game that has aged terribly. The controls are awkward, visuals are inconsistent and that heavy atmosphere of a lone warrior against a giant isn't really recaptured on the HD version, if it ever had it on the original. I never had the chance to play the game back when it released, so this probably influences my opinion, but still. It's a decent game, one with a specific and focused task but that unfortunately falls into monotony and emptiness. The landscape, as much as I tried to love it, was extremely barren. The gameplay isn't really that fun. Once you figure out the Colossi weakness, which admitely can be interesting, it fades into an exercise of monotony.

On the other hand, I think Ico is superb, friendly AI issues aside. But then again, I had the chance to play Ico back when it first released, so probably nostalgia is a factor to have in consideration.

How do you strike the final hit on any of the Colossi? You do not swing the sword, you move to the weak point and press the button, an animation of the strike plays out. It is not like Monster Hunter, where it is slow and methodical, but you feel as though you have full control of your character during the process. To me, it would have felt better to actually bring the boss down, then shoot said weak point with your bow (and yes I am aware that you do when fighting the bird colossus, though that is primarily to get him down) as, to me, it would feel as though I was actually the one doing the deed.

The question mark gives  the impression that you're confused as to wether you like it or not.

Either way, this is going to be an "Agree to disagree" situation, as you have a view that is contrary to my view.

You mean like the QTE in TLOU when you strangle an enemy? Or the QTE when you mount a horse in Red Dead Redemption? They're not QTEs and neither is this. It's what you do in every single game that's ever been created but you wanted to use it to add a layer of negativity and now you're trying to defend it to keep credibility.

Please don't use QTEs to reply.

The PS5 Exists.

Credibility is not what I am going for, I am human, and I can see things from a different perspective than you, is part of being said human. I have every right to view and feel as I do, just as you have every right and reason to view things as you do.
