Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor Has It (Dead Island rumors)

Dead Island Definitive edition is getting realised this year, 4 years after its original realise! The original went on to sell a massive 5 million copies and was hugely popular for a new IP. Deep Sliver are known for their viral trailers as the original trailer went on to become the most viewed game trailer of all time. But do we really need this game again? Rumour has it Deep Sliver are in need of some mula as their sequel to the game of the year nominee has entered “development hell”.

Techland the developers of the Original Dead Island parted ways mid development of the sequel Dead Island 2 which lead to the change of name now known as “Dying Light” which went on to receive generally positive reviews “Improvement on Dead Island in almost every way” Deep Silver has a lot of under the radar titles, and they’re far from a publishing giant like Activision or EA so Dead Island remains one of their most valuable properties, alongside Metro and the Saints Row series.

YAGAR the former developers of Dead Island 2 have now written a response about the situation.

“Our YAGER team is fully committed to the development of AAA quality titles. We work closely with international publishers and partners and have at the same time always remained an independent development studio. Our team is made of the best creative minds and tech specialists who all share a common identity. The team worked with enthusiasm to take Dead Island 2 to a new level of quality. However, YAGER and Deep Silver’s respective visions of the project fell out of alignment, which led to the decision that has been made. We’ll focus our current efforts on Dreadnought together with Six Foot and our publisher Grey Box as well as on new projects. More details will be disclosed soon. All I can reveal at this point is that gamescom will be awesome for Dreadnought.”

It’s unclear what the “respective visions” were that “fell out of alignment,” but it’s a big blow to Dead Island 2, which now has to hunt for a new developer. The game was a no-show at E3, and this certainly explains why. The last I remember hearing about Dead Island 2 was that the central idea would be that it lacked a main storyline, and would be more of a “roaming” game where you find work and missions as you go, rather than have it be structured. Whether that was Deep Silver’s idea or YAGER’s is unclear, and it’s unknown what direction the series will take now.
