Forums - Sales Discussion - Now that Xbox360 is cheaper than the Wii what next?

Here in Sweden the Wii is around 2600 SEK, while the Xbox 360 Premium is now 2500. Arcade version is 1900SEK.

So there goes Wii's price point advantage.

Do you guys think it is already too late to make a change in the momentum, or will this now make it a better option for parents buying a console for their children? Somehow I doubt that Sony will lower prices before GTA, so what kind of impact are we looking at here?

Ideas?

well, it could send 360 sales surging once people see that it's cheaper than the wii. OR.......or, it could be just business as usual for the wii, and hopefully for the ps3 aswell, but not as likely for the ps3.

How is the Wii and 360 selling. Is it a case of 360 struggling to sell and Wii being sold out and therefore MS having no choice but to do this.

 Does that matter? The Wii is not sold out here in Europe anymore, although it is hard to find an unbundeled one.

My question was not why Microsoft did this, but what would the outcome be. I beleive that many console sales come from parents buying for their kids, so if Xbox360 is now cheaper I think that would become the default choice. Just my thoughts would maybe could happen.

for a segment of consumers, 360 is a substitute for wii, so that segment will buy a higher % of 360s now

but for a large segment of consumers, the 360 is not...they don't even consider purchasing a 360, and ps360's actions won't affect that segment

kinda like how a $1 ringling bros circus isn't gonna steal a large % of cirque du soleil customers

I don't think Smash Bros is very big in Europe either. Series has been on Nintendo systems and they haven't been the most popular for a while.

 For comparison, how much is the PS3 there?

 Seems to me there won't be a significant difference, 360 has hard times selling outside USA and UK, and even then 360 is not the 'fun' console the Wii is and will never be.

Odd pricing though, Premium in the UK is now £200 I think due to the price drop, £20 more then the Wii.

This next week I think is going to be an odd one.
