No idea on the 3DS, since 3D screens shouldn't be very expensive and/or use old technology

I think I saw a old cost analyst of the 3DS model costing like 90$ or something to make....

they have huge returns on them, but greed/lack of competition... its just a cash cow for nintendo atm.

Interesting, considering how many goddamn models and revisions they've made for the 3DS... erhm, 3DS family of systems.

@lack of competition. When you have a monopoly, this should be expected.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

IBM and AMD are not going to give Nintendo any price breaks on their components for the Wii U since its selling so badly. If anything the component cost for the Wii U is probably rising as their technology is too proprietary/out of date.

Or.. much more realistic..... nintedo is just pocketing large amounts of money?

Its smart bussiness, its working consumers are buying lots of 3DS so... market deems it okay (the prices of the units).

"@lack of competition. When you have a monopoly, this should be expected."

83.5% of the market share (if we only count vita & 3ds's)

When its that high, your probably right, it could be called a monopoly.

Well the 3DS doesn't really need it, doing well enough as is. As for the Wii U... E3 is in a couple weeks so who knows they may well do a price cut then.

The old models though needs them....There is still huge stock of them even in Japan that forces nintendo to undership New 3ds/xl and in extend, low stock  of them since it's popular and sells out...

The manufacturing cost is 100$...So they can conveniently do a price cut....

Sales of both devices are not good, not even 3DS.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Remember this gen is the first time they took losses so they're trying to make up for that as much as possible.

Thinking more about it, doesn't make much sense to say this should be expected. They had an even bigger monopoly before the PSP/PS Vita, yet the prices were more consumer friendly.

For accuracy, wii u technically hasn't received any price cut,the production of the basic set which was costing 299$,was abolished and the 349$ costing premium pack got the price of the basic set...So essentially this isn't a price cut, there was already plenty wii u at 299$...
And 8gb vs 32gb(wow 50$ more than the basic set, just because of the quadruple capacity, ooops that doesn't add up,nintendo exaggerated...) doesn't make any difference to be honest,I don't know if the white vs black makes one!:P

They gotta get dat profit, yo.
