Forums - PC Discussion - Valve Trademarks Something Related to VR Called "Chaperone"

PC gaming giant Valve has trademarked something called "Chaperone," and--whatever it is--it appears to be related to virtual reality. Valve applied for the trademark with the United States Patent & Trademark Office in March, but the application was only recently discovered by people on Reddit.

The trademark application specifically mentions virtual reality, including "Hardware and software, sensors, and beacons for the detection and measurement of physical objects and the representation of such objects in virtual reality environments."

It also covers "Electronic apparatus for the detection and measurement of physical objects and the representation of such objects in virtual reality environments."

Given the virtual reality association, "Chaperone" appears to be related to the ViveVR headset. Valve is working on this device with smartphone giant HTC. It's expected to launch later this year, though Valve has not announced a release date or price for the headset.
