The gen is still early, so reasons to own each console might not yet be there for everyone.

That being said, I have always been a multi-console gamer, and that's not going to change.

I plan to own each of the current gen consoles. But I buy them when there's an exclusive I just can't miss. And so far, the X1 just hasn't hooked me with the titles currently on offer. But I know it will come. Killer Instinct nearly did it at launch, but reviews from people I used to play the original games with convinced me to wait...

If MS manages to pull a Lost Odyssey again, I'll gladly jump in. They would have got me if they had created a proper Fable game in the vain of Fable 2, but they're going with an online title and that's just not me...=(

Sure, if you are interested in the exclusives on all three consoles. But for me who doesn't care about HALO, Gears of War, Fable or any of the other exclusives on xbone it makes no sense to buy one

These threads annoy me. For alot off people its not money that stops us its time. Theres a big world out there you know.

The xbone doesn't have any exclusives I want.

Have a PS4
Will be getting a WiiU in the next year
May get an Xbox One when the price comes way down

I have all 3 but I don't play them all regularly.

I usually go through a phase of playing one and ignoring the other two.

I'm currently playing mostly PS4/PS3 but before that I played nothing but Monster Hunter 3 on the Wii U for a month.

If you can afford them and if enough games for each system interest you. There's no point in owning something if you're never going to play it. If I wanted to I probably could own all 3 current gen systems, but I honestly don't care for most XBO exclusives. The only reason I got my Wii U was because my brothers chipped in to get one as well. I would personally need like 10 games (exclusives) to interest me to get one. At the moment there's only Ori and the Blind Forest and I could play that on PC if I wanted to. I'll see by the end of the gen if that changes.

So, I sat and thought about my situation, and i'm sure the same situation for many fellow gamers on these boards, the situation of owning the WiiU, PS4 and XBO, then I thought about the counter arguments brought up by people which usually goes along the lines of "x and y consoles all you need".

The reasoning behind this attitude seems rather weird, usually the attitude is "WiiU and PC" or "PS4/XBO and WiiU", or even just PS4/XBO and PC", but when you break it down, no matter how you slice it, excluding one of the three consoles means writing off the exclusives and first party titles of a particular console completely, or subconciously assuming that the exclusives of one console have more value than the exclusives of another.

I'm not going to beat around the bush with it though, Nintendo gamers, and even non nintendo gamers seem to have this mentality that Nintendo exclusives by default should be included, where the "hd twins" is a "pick one and you're done" situation.

The reality is simply that if you exclude one, or even two consoles from your collection, you are going to miss out on great games no matter which console or combination of two consoles you pick, the only reason why picking between the XBO and PS4 is "less important" is because they have more third party titles, something that the WiiU painfully lacks.

Owning all three consoles however, allows you to pick the best games regardless of exclusivity, and the "best version" of multiplatform games, either based on the games quality itself, the online features, or whichever game is being played most by your different groups of console friends.

For example you could have more friends playing Destiny on PS4, so buy for PS4, but more friends on XBO playing Battlefield, so go with the XBO, equallty you get to benefit from the "hd twins" rivalry for sales in terms of discounts, buying games only a few weeks old at a discount, or even getting relatively new games for bargin basement prices as the rivalry and competition for the largest userbase hots up.

Owning all three doesn't however make you unbiased by default, you would still have a "favorite" but you are at least in a position to try the offerings of the other systems and play them first hand rather than writing them off just because they're on the "enemies" console.

No doubt there will be some users who don't read to this point and reply with "x and y consoles all you need" or will read to this point and reply with it anyway because they think doing so is funny, but the simple and logical conclusion when thinking about the way games are released, how industry competition works, and how to best use sales rivalry, is to own all three systems and, where finances permit, a relatively decent specced PC/Laptop to boot, means that you benefit most from the massed of bullshit, misdirection and underhanded deals going on throughout these consoles lifetimes.

At the time of writing this, you can buy the three consoles at the current amazon prices of:
Xbox One with game : $346.95
PlayStation 4 : $399
Nintendo WiiU Swapforce bundle : $249.99

That's all three consoles for $995.94 or an average of about 2 weeks pay (or a birthday and christmas combined for the average kid).

The total price of buying all three during sales such as black friday drops signficantly too.

So I guess what i'm saying is, Give being an all-console owner a try, if you can, the benefits far outweigh the initial cost.

You have a warped idea of the average kid if you think a normal birthday and christmas gets them $1000 worth of presents.

Unless you game more hours than anything else in life you're going to miss out on great games even if you only own one console. So for the average person the argument that you'll miss out on great exclusives if you don't own all 3 consoles makes no sense given they aren't going to be able to play all the games they would like to play on just one console. I know there are several PS3 games I would like to play but will never get to, and now the PS4 backlog starts to build up, which I know I'll never clear. Sure I'd like to play Sunset Overdrive and Xenoblade, but why would I get 2 consoles for just a handful of games when all it means is creating an even bigger backlog that I will never clear?

Not nearly enough quality games to be worth the price for two extra consoles, two extra remotes, and two yearly subscriptions, on top of the cost to sustain the alleged two extra libraries of games. Waste of money.

It actually isn't that uncommon.
