Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The Win10 Xbox app is doomed to confuse people, we need to talk about it

If you followed the Windows 10 event, you likely heard all about the Xbox app that's coming along with Windows 10.

Up to this point, we've shared some pretty positive posts about the Xbox Win10 app and it's exciting promise of exposing more people to Xbox. I'm sorry to spoil it for you, but there's a good chance the Xbox app on Win 10 will have a rocky start or possibly end up being a failure.

That's not to say,the Xbox app will necessarily be a disaster.  The Xbox app will have some cool features like X1 Streaming and cross-play for particular titles. DX12 has some excellent potential as well. Hololens could be a game changer whenever it comes out. This is some really cool stuff if you're a gamer who's in the know about this stuff.

However, for a large number of the rest of the population -- that Xbox app is going to just confuse people. There's just no defending it. Some things just won't get through to these people easily. Only a minority of people will see the Xbox app the first time and really know what exactly to expect.

Here's some of the stupid things people will try to do with or just assume of the Xbox app on Windows 10:

-Put 360/X1 games in their disc tray only to find out they can't be played on PC

-WTF you mean I need an Xbox? I have the app! Complaints of people who want to play Xbox games from the marketplace natively on their PC  or Win10 phone without streaming/without actually owning a physical Xbox

-Missing hardware for wireless controller connectivity for a lot PCs out there. Many users will mistakenly think they can sync 360/X1 controllers without an adapter.

-Misconceptions about Xbox Live subscription and "streaming". Most digital media subscriptions an ordinary person uses  work like this. Pay Netflix $7. Watch all the movies & TV shows Netflix has. Xbox Live isn't really set up that way. Unfortunately, many newcomers will expect Xbox Live to be a full-on cloud streaming service for all Xbox games much like how Netflix is a full-on streaming service for movies and TV. That's not to say something like that isn't in the works -- but going from what we know now, you need X1 to stream games and it likely can only be done for some games.

-This whole thing just blows. Lastly, we do need to acknowledge the relative probability of Windows 10 itself could really just suck. And that suckiness, would be inflicted not only upon the Xbox app on Win10, but potentially upon Xbox console experience itself too.

Yes, there's still a lot we probably don't know about that could put these problems aside. As an IT person, I really want to see MS get everything right -- but lets admit it: MS can disappoint you. They've done before, and *someday* they'll do it again. Sometimes they fix problems quickly, other times, they just iterate one bad idea upon another for eons (like IE).

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Around the Network

Honestly, I think the issue of it will be the # of cares rather it being confused cause PC gamers aren't really going to care about it at all and will probably just hide it and the casuals won't probably care about it either. Like, with windows 8/8.1, you already have xbox Music and Xbox Video and other xbox related stuff but from my experience, no one really cares. It will just be like another GFWL thing and it will come out and just be another thing that wants to be Steam but wont reach anywhere near that level

Ok, and once they do those stupid things they'll learn how to research before assuming something stupid. Which in the end will make them smarter. Same thing happened when PS4, X1 and Wii U came out and people wanted to play the 7th gen games on them. There's always going to be stupid consumers. Its not MS' fault.

If people are as stupid as that, dam I shouldn't be on this planet anymore! I mean its goddamn simple! Streaming!!!! Does anyone know what that is even?! Maybe fat pigs eating Burger King all day long can't learn. If this is what the world has come to, then people really need to stop being narrow minded fools! Anyway if people can't spend 3 minutes of their life not going onto the internet (which hardly anyone had a mere 20 years ago) then people have stooped to a new form of laziness.

Well since the app is essentially meant for XBO owners to take advantage of remote play... This is a non issue...

But all in all those people will be an amazing ridiculously small minority...

So yeah I disagree completely with the OP...

So yeah Non issue here..
