I think that it will be closer to $299.

IF you followed the consumer electronics show a week back, you will see that a number of extremely small PCs(smaller than USB drives) are hitting the market. Clearly, M$ is working with that kind of tech in mind. A majority of the unit is probably plastic. My thought is that the cost to make them if mass produced would start around $300-400. Regardless of the cost, M$ would have to sell them for $299 or less to have a chance in the marketplace.

The VR/AR/whatever reality segment is just in it's infancy. Whoever can take the financial hit to lose money to establish the largest market share early will do it. So, Sony is already done(besides developing the same thing that a dozen other are already proposing). But, M$ will have to compete with Facebook who actually has billions to put into this endeavor.

This battle will require BILLIONS of disposable dollars each year for probably 10 years. Whichever company can do that will really be the winner...

At least we will be able to buy one whereas Sonys is more then shy giving out even a release date for Morpheus...
