Forums - Sales Discussion - XBO and PS4 are selling upwards of 50K units combined a week in the UK at the moment

Good tracking for 360 here. We have it at 8.9M.

I'm guessing the PS4:One split is something like 65/45 or 70/30, so on weeks it is 50K, PS4 is getting ~32K-35K, with the One taking the remaining 15K-18K.

Have anything to back that up with, besides comparing it to US sales which is irrelevent as the UK market has been getting new bundles and price cuts compared to the US?

First of all, I don't really need anything to back it up because the OP doesn't have anything to back it up.

But even then:

As I said, that's like selling 300k a week in the US (yes, valid comparison). That would be 1,500,000 (!!!) in September's NPD. Even with Destiny and the PS4 having 2nd biggest HW sales in history, they did 820,000. As I said, 2nd biggest September in history, and it's not even close.

We also have other sources like Sony saying the sold 1m in the UK recently, that the PS4 is outselling Xbox One 1.5:1 in the UK and that on FIFA week Xbox One sales increased by 155% with a drop afterwards. You can easily find articles for all of those.

So again. It's possible during FIFA and Destiny weeks. Not on a consistent basis, that's nuts.

PS4 sales are on average 33% higher than XB1, (that's without accounting for the healthier sales for XB1).

So more like 20/30k on average and above that (in XB1 favour) when you take into account better sales.

We got confirmed LTD's of 666k and 1m not long ago.

The UK is not a big enough market to sell 50k a week regularly, even in October. That's like selling 300k a week in the US. A couple of weeks yes, probably what they referred to (if the article exists at all because I couldn't find it. Maybe print?). Consistently, no.

Well, with 9M, the 360 averaged 93,750 per week. Of course, that includes the holiday period but it shows that it's possible.

9m / 52 weeks a year / 9 years = 19k. Including holidays.

19K average means + 25K during Sept-DeC months..And this is PS4+XBO....Not saying the 50K is right but I don't see any reason why to think it is for sure wrong;.

I'm glad to see they're both doing so well!

Have to admit, I've seen dedicated game stores pretty much turned over to current-gen recently; and supermarkets always have big stands for new releases (such as Destiny a few weeks ago), so their presence is definitely felt a lot more than other recent console launches.

19k average means more like 12k average Jan-Oct and 50k average Nov-Dec.

But even if you take the 19k average and add PS3, you'd get 29k. Again, including holiday sales and the consoles' peak years.

I'm not saying it hasn't happened a couple of weeks. All I'm saying is that it's not a trend and we shouldn't expect this to happen on a wekly basis from October onwards.

Well hopefully we'll know if this is accurate in a few days if Nintendo decides to include those Europe charts in their investor meeting.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Without being privy to the data you really can't make foregone conclusions like this. The article states Forza Horizon which was after Fifa. UK is seeing a lot more deals recently than the US is.

PS4's momentum seems impossible to stop, stretching its lead constantly, even against MS's price drops and hit-game giveaways.
With great bundles like GTA, LBP and others coming up, this holiday season will be a fantastic victory for Sony...

They've not done those in a long time AFAIK.
