Disgaea is a very complex strategy rpg if you wanna fully explore it. You have so fu**** much shit to do there you will probably get lost if's your first time getting into the series xD

Just bought D3 and D4 for my Vita to check out this series since it seems to be popular and I like good tactical games.

Maybe buying just one would have been more than enough for a start.

Any suggestions about which one to play first?

Thinking to maybe start with D4 unless they are strongly connected storywise or something

since D4 is the best out of the two, then save it for last, so play D3 and then D4.

Which picture you are talking about? The first one?
This is Kilia, the new protagonist, and IMO he really looks like Valvatorez indeed.
He is the main char of this game (Disgaea 5).

Check my sig, all protagonists from Disgaea titles are in order, with Valvotorez and Kilia right next to each other.
